Scott Rabalais: LSU fans, don't boo the visiting team this week. They deserve our respect.

But Saturday’s game, and Saturday’s opponent, is different. It’s not just any team visiting this Saturday. It’s the United States Military Academy.

For the young men playing LSU on Saturday, their next stop isn’t the NFL. It’s an eight-year commitment as Army officers in a combination of active duty and reserve service. Possibly putting their lives on the line to protect your right to boo Auburn or Alabama or Florida.

So if you’re at the game Saturday, when Army takes the field, how about some polite applause? Or just stay respectfully silent. I strongly urge LSU to publicly promote either.

I can pretty much guarantee when they fire the cannon when LSU takes the field, the Black Knights won’t flinch. They’ve heard, and prepared, for a lot more than that.

Jesus Christ. Let's just forfeit the game.

This has to be the saddest shite I've ever seen. And it frankly makes me want to boo as loud as I can on Saturday if they keep pushing this. You can simultaneously respect the armed forces and cheer against them without jerking them off to oblivion.

I know what he’s trying to get at but this is disrespectful to people who actually have been boots on the ground instead of just college

Does that mouth breather really think LSU fans don't understand the significance of Army? Scott Rabalais is a fat dork who just wants to virtue signal.

Good grief, you're soft. If you can't get why some fans want to show appreciation to the Cadets when they take the field, you can't be fixed. Once the whistle blows, let them experience all of what Tiger Stadium has to offer.

Can’t you respect them as Cadets and boo them as football players? Wouldn’t they want the full Tiger Stadium experience?? This is a once in a lifetime thing for them

They're football players on the field.

Players on other teams are the exact same. Generally speaking, whatever career path they choose helps out this country in some way, shape, or form.

That includes booing them as soon as they walk out of the visiting tunnel, screaming as loud as you can on defense, cheering when things don't go the way of Army.

Based on the reactions in tRant you would think that the entire Army football team is a Make-A-Wish roster.

you do you, hardo. Don't be surprised when most Tiger fans cheer the Cadets when they take the field.

I doubt the army football team is soft enough to care.

I'm not going to be surprised, at all. Circle jerking and pearl-clutching our military is something I expect. Guarantee that people would look at someone booing Army and give them a face that looks like someone just took a dump on their car.

This may be one of those rare instances where the term "virtue signaling" fits.
It is fashionable in many circles to be perceived as an Uber-patriot.
Enjoy the game, be respectful to everybody. Facetiously, booing the opponent is just part of the game and Army understands that fully.

The irony is that half of those booing because they want to show them the full Tiger Stadium experience will be gone before the end of the 3rd qtr.

What an idiotic statement. Are the two options to either boo them or forfeit?

If I applied your same logic, I would ask why you hate our military.

Perhaps the point is don't boo the players because this team is not quite like other teams that show up at LSU.

You should still boo the refs, though.

Sarcasm, clearly.

It's another college football team. Treat them how you would any other team. Special treatment because they are part of the Army is a slap in the face to them.

Scott Rabalais posted this on the rant earlier in the week to gauge the response.

PurpleNGold4Ever or DeafVallyBatnR

And for real, has Army ever smoked cigars on our field? Or ever done any other stupid shite that would warrant booing when they come to tiger stadium?

No.....

.......so wtf are we even talking about.

Cleats hit the field, not boots. For sixty minutes, they are the enemy. Cheer them afterward.
