Defer - puts the strongest unit (defense) on the field first, and gets the crowd into it early.

The only, absolutely only reason you put the offense out there first, voluntarily, is a leadership/team-building moment - bring the captains together and say, "If we win the toss, do we want the ball or does the defense want to get after those guys?" If the captains want the ball, let them have the ball. They win together or lose together - there's no other way - same deal with 4th and 1 calls. If the defense says, "We'll stop them if we don't make it", you tell the offense, "Get 1 yard".

Receive ...Score first. Bama has gotten outta the gate really fast in most of their games this year.

Defer. put the pressure on Alabama . A three and out would really set the tone for LSU's defense and the house would be wild.

For this game I say take the ball. State drove the field on Bama and then missed a chip shot field goal.
I don't want Bama and to score on its first scripted drive, if we score first, the place will be going crazy, and AJ will get nervous.

Defer,

Their D is going to be jacked up and I do not want our O to go against that right off the start...
also, it is nice to start the second half (after adjustments with our O.

We would be NUTS to receive. The odds of us going 3 and out are extremely high. That would force us to punt putting us in extremely bad field position.

WE better put Simon on their TE he is the only one who is tall enough 6'3 to jump with that guy and fast enough to cover him. McCArron is gonna ride that TE just like last year.

bama fans were saying that bama is not very good on their first possession.

they are outscoring their opponents 104-3 in the first quarter. 104-28 in the second. If they aren't good on first possessions, then they must be good on all the rest of them in the first half.

Defer and let the footfalls of the defense and the sounds the mob herald their impending doom.

Is it Saturday yet?

You always defer. Always. You're going to get the ball in either the 1st or 3rd, why would anyone voluntarily take the ball in the least important of those two quarters?

Always defer.

That said, it's not a big deal either way, but its stupid to voluntarily take the ball in the least important quarter of the game. It's very similar to the offense-defense question in overtime...same principle...you have a much clearer idea of "what you need to do" in the 3rd quarter as opposed to the 1st quarter.

Defer of course is what we alwasy normally do when Les wins the toss. If we don't win the toss and Bama kicks the ball in the endzone, please kneel the damn ball and take it on the 25 instead of getting smashed on the 8 yard line each time.
