This.

I had to read the OP a couple of times to be sure of what he was saying. What a stupid, stupid post. The lengths some people here will go to to act like they disdain Saban is just incredible.

SABAN put us back on the map, period. His leaving was potentially a severe blow to our program. We recovered by being fortunate enough to hire an excellent coach with a somewhat different personality and style in Les Miles.

It is nothing but purely UNFORTUNATE for us that Saban landed at Alabama. This means we have not been able to be the undisputed masters of the SEC; we have not won at least one championship that we probably would otherwise have won, and have missed some recruits that would otherwise have come here if not for the fact that Saban recruited them to Bama. NONE of those things are good for us. Despite those facts, however, we have had an excellent program, by all objective measures the second best in the SEC in the last 10 years, and are competitive for the NC every year.

No, Saban to Bama is far from the best thing that ever happened to LSU football.

If you're going to post about Saban/Bama, please try to be objective.

Seems to me if there were No Saban at Alabama, we would have won multiple NC's by now. And i think holding the glass trophy at the end of the season gets you coverage, Not playing Saban.

What? Bama is going to win their third NC in four years, not LSU.

Record stadium attendance, national record TV ratings and exposure the LSU program would not have been capable of.

a) Alabama was turned down by Rich Rodriguez at the 11th hour. Mal Moore, the AD, looked foolish and was on the hotseat. Getting Saban was Moore's "Hail Mary" and it took a blank check to seal the deal. It had nothing to do with scheming "the demise of the golden era of LSU football" and everything to do with saving Alabama football from a downward spiral.

b) LSU/Bama has grown into a rivalry because of great recruiting, great player development, great coaching, great competition, great fans... all leading to intense matchups and fantastic entertainment. Maybe the whole Saban/Miles thing along with media hype got it started, but that is not what has sustained it.

c) It ain't likely to end soon

"can we all agree to stop calling it a "'ship?" it drives me nuts."

People who still use this have no original thoughts of their own so they hang on to the thoughts of others. Also- it's so worn out and badly over-used.

We lucked into Saban after Rich Rod agreed to the job then backed out. It was simply chance that Saban did not enjoy his NFL experience and in fact regretted the decision. Bama fans pretty much concur had the LSU job been open at that time he would have certainly returned.

Knew some Louisiana HS Coaches. Upon his first recruiting trip back to LA as Alabama's coach he told every high school coach, 'Terri and the kids loved BR for NFL......Leaving was the poorest decision I've made, on and on'

Pretty simple... They were down and needed a proven program builder...Nick's agent let it be known he was not sold on the NFL and was open to discussions. Bama came up with big money... And landed him. That's pretty much the whole story.

I'm not Mal Moore but what you said is what most Bama fans think Mal was trying to do. We don't hire a coach just to compete with 1 team. That's Auburn football not Bama.

Lol no. They hired him to win championships. He is winning championships.
Him going to Bama was not good for LSU. We would have at least one more national championship, multiple more SECs. You act like we were having trouble before he got there.

4 years without a win. Won in '01 and '03, lost in '05, won in '07 and '11.
