Saban is ego driven, and he wouldn't deny it.

Plays golf close to par, but tells those he gambles with that his hdcp is 10.

They say, "Coach, I thought you shot 74 the other day?"

He says, "I'm a 10 hdcp!"

He shoots 74, takes all their money, and they like it.

So goes the life of the egomaniac.

True story, BTW.

right....thats why he's had top 3 classes the last 2 years. He just got lucky that his criteria for evaluating talent just so happened to align with 4-5 star recruits.

...on his radio show that he (at LSU) was the only D-1 School that recruited Corey Webster. He was talking about he he doesn't look at stars and that he has his own criteria to evaluate talent. I guess we all know how webster turned out.
Also, the guy before his said that most of the teams on our schedule this year passed on Terrance Cody before coach Saban picked him up at BAMA.
I think his gift is having an eye for talent.

Admin can move this to the Tiger Rant, that is where I meant to put it because of Webster being mentioned by Saban.

BamaScoop, say it ain't so. It's cool to boast about your school, your coach, etc., but if you truly believe this crap you've simply left the reservation.

Yeah, like Saban, 'BamaNation and its bloggers don't care about claiming the "top recruiting class" title EVERY YEAR, even when they don't. They celebrate it!

Every upper-tier school (and its coaches) do this. Yes, even Miles & LSU. The difference is, as much as Miles confounds and vexes us every time he opens his mouth, he doesn't make claims as Saban did on his show. He's shamelessly pandering to his ancient die-hard boosters and relatively new fans who are so starved for a national championship, they'll buy Saban's religion and pay him anything he wants just to get it.

I'm not trying to shoot the messenger (you), 'cos it's "interesting" to read what he said. But you have insinuated yourself and your opinions into Saban's latest lie-fest, so you're fair game...
For example, do you really believe that Saban has cornered the market on evaluating talent? Every last one of us on The Rant could do it if they paid us. He's been successful at attracting and recruiting talented players.

Bengal55, are you any better? Nick Saban is very much respected by a lot of people. Maybe you will get a chance to tell Saban to his face that he is a scumbag.

Without Jacob Hester, no crystal football in 07. What was he? A three star, right? I dont think they figure heart into the star ratings.

Further proving your point, Hester was a 2-star linebacker coming out of high school.

The "recruiting services" are nothing more than a cottage industry, a beast that has to be fed and you gotta pay for the privilege.

didn't saban have him buried down the depth chart at FB? took Miles and his crew to make him a primary ball carrier?

Yeah, you're right. Hester split time as a FB and TB with just one start in '04 and '05 (did play special teams, though), and 20 carries for 123 yds. as a fresh., and 25 for 114 w/2 TDs as a soph.

In 2006 & 2007, Hester started all 27 games (incl. the BCSCG). In '06, mainly at FB, had 94 carries for 440 w/6 TDs. He also was named the top receiving FB in the nation by ESPN, w/35 catches for 269 yds. & 3 TDs.

In his senior season (BCS Champs yr.) in 2007, had 225 for 1,103 w/12 TDs. Had another 12 receptions for 110 yds. & a TD.

But, yeah, all the credit goes to St. Nick Prick.
