Running vs Passing

Would you take a super strong running game or a super strong passing game. Obviously we'd all like balance but that is hard to do these days. It's almost like to have to commit to doing one or the other well.
One thing usually happens....the team that wins the rushing battle usually wins the game. Running for 400 yards is the equivalent of Passing for 600 IMO. Based on it's effect on the game - wearing down DL and LBs & eating up the clock.

I'd rather a dominant rushing attack. Games are won at the LOS and wearing down the DL would be a favorable outcome.

Both have pros and cons. Rushing teams are able to control the tempo and game clock while resting their defense. They thrive on playing with a lead . Passing teams tend to score quicker and jump on opponents early but have an advantage when playing from behind for obvious reasons. When they go 3 & out on incomplete passes though they put their defense right back on the field . The offense you runs depends on several things like the opponents you will face, the strengths of your team, and just what you as a coach are comfortable with.

Given the hypothetical, ceteris paribus, I'd take the strong running game, but there are a lot of other factors involved.
Not necessarily. At some times, in some particular scenarios, yes, but balance is certainly possible.

I think he means when you see these teams putting up gaudy passing yards they are rushing for 80 yds or less per game. You dont see teams doing both. That isnt a balanced offense either.

That's just not true at all.
Look at Baylor -- they are averaging 368.5 Passing YPG and 376.8 Rushing YPG. Nationally, there are a bunch of other examples through the years. Currently, there are 19 teams that are averaging over 300 Yards Passing Per Game. Only 1 of those 19 is averaging under 80 Yards Rushing Per Game.
If you want to keep it in the SEC, Texas A&M is averaging 292.4 Passing YPG and 188 Rushing YPG. Ole Miss is averaging 327.4 Passing YPG and 173 Rushing YPG. Arkansas has definitely had their struggles this year, but they are playing better lately, and they have nice offensive balance -- 272 Passing YPG and 204 Rushing YPG. I don't know if these teams meet your standard for "gaudy" passing yards. If not, put a specific number on it. My only point here was that achieving balance is possible (I'm not saying it's always necessary).
