Rivers will retire before becoming a QB2 anywhere.

I think Mett CAN be the long term answer at QB for the Titans.

IF they get him some better protection and targets.

I agree- it all starts at QB in the NFL.

At 33 I don't think Rivers is worth the 2nd pick. He will be done or an experienced backup soon enough.

Age hasn't been an issue with Brady or especially Peyton Manning.

It's not so much the age thing, but the Rivers isn't a elite QB thing (very good, but not elite).

WRONG... It all starts on the lines... You build from there and then out.... A good/great QB is only as good as his O-line. FACT......

Maybe Tenn could put Mett in as part of the deal so SD would have someone to hold the fort until Mariota adjust to the NFL. That way they could ask for more picks out of SD in return.

True, but it is a hell of a lot easier to build an O-line than it is to find a proven all-pro QB.

Rivers is 33. The ultimate question is how confident are you that the he has at least 5 more good years left vs. how confident are you that Mariota is a franchise QB?

Mettenberger is irrelevant here. As an LSU guy I'd love to see him succeed. But honestly I see him as Ryan Mallet 2.0. He's got good size and a great arm. He'll make a few really nice throws, but he he doesn't have the complete package to be a long term franchise QB. There's a reason he was picked in the 6th round of a QB desperate-league, and there are VERY few Tom Bradys out there.

Sorry but this is not even a question.. Its a what have you done for me lately league... Id take Rivers in a heartbeat... I just don't get the love for Mariota... He is no different than Johnny Football.....

I agree with this... A good backup for Rivers IF the trade happens.......

Are you high? No way are the Chargers trading Rivers plus their #17 pick for the #2 pick.

Please don't ever compare Mett to Mallet. The latter is a head case. Mett at least has the potential to lead.

Saw Mett across the bar Saturday night taking shots with some fine women.

He'll live

should trade their #2 pick for multiple draft picks and build an offensive line

They have tried that. Their past 2 first rounders were Warmack (so far no good) and Lewan (so far so good)

Also for what it's worth, what I am hearing in the local Nashville media is that Cleveland is interested in Mariota. I can't imagine why, but this would be the best route for Titans IMO.

Get a boat load of picks, make Mett your guy, and you could still draft a guy like Mannion in the later rounds to compete.

Probably be the best break Mett could hope for. He will never stay healthy as the starter. Maybe he could have a backup career and last in the league for years.

I agree, if he could stay healthy he'd be a good starter, but I don't see it happening. As it stands, he could be a 6-8 year backup, earn millions, and collect an NFL pension for the rest of his life.

Not too shabby.

maybe get traded to san diego? that would be ideal if titans don't have any interest of making the O-line better

Sure this is something Tennessee would probably do. But, Rivers is getting older and he's not the type of player that will turn a season around from 2-14 to Championship. I was simply stating that Ten wouldn't give up their #2 pick for Rivers straight up. Nobody knows what they would trade for.

I believe Ten is trying to market Mariota so they can trade down, because they need more than just 1 guy to make them relevant again. This is why they will stick with Mett for the long term and build around him.
