#10 LSU v #12 Auburn…

It was a home game on national TV, and that stadium atmosphere was incredible. The fact that Cecil Collins went nuts and LSU still lost is irrelevant. The crowd was jacked from the start.

Am I supposed to believe that postgame traffic wasn’t an issue then? Maybe the stadium should downsize a bit. Even so, 100K now can’t match the volume of 80K 25 years ago.

That game is top 5 in heart break losses for me. I was 10 years old and devastated to lose at the end after what Cecil Collins did in the game. Herb Tyler also threw two picks early in the game that really hurt us.

Half the stadium wasn’t playing on their phone in 97.

I was there with a good friend from college who was an Auburn fan. We still talk about that game how it was one of the best college football games We ever saw in person even though lsu lost. (Of course he was happy)

Yes, LSU fans and Tiger Stadium were different back then. Stadium was wild that night.

2000 Tennessee game was another crazy night in Tiger Stadium.

It was as an amazing game and an amazing atmosphere. The Dinardo years are often lumped into the pre-Saban dark times of the 90s but they still produced three of the most incredible game atmospheres I have ever seen in the Auburn games of ‘95 & ‘97 and ‘97 Florida game.

DiNardo did, in fact, bring back the magic.

He just couldn’t sustain it.

He left Saban a lot of talent.

Speaking of the Dinardo years, one often forgotten about game that was a lot of fun was the 96 Vandy game. LSU fans were craving any kind of success. It was early in the season and LSU was undefeated at that time which included a road win at Auburn. Dinardo was playing his old team. Vandy wouldn't let LSU wear white. Vandy was was pretty good as far as Vandy goes. If LSU won, would set up an undefeated matchup in the Swamp the next week. Well, LSU played a great game in blanking the Dores 35-0.

I can still hear LSU fans toward the end of the Vandy game. 'We want Florida, we want Florida'. Well LSU got plenty of Florida a week later, lol.

what was cool about that game is that it rained right up until kickoff... everybody was in their ponchos, then for kickoff all of a sudden it looked like a massive costume change and the entire crowd was in white. pretty cool

That was one of the best Tiger Stadium atmospheres ever. We lost, so it's not mentioned as much among the great atmospheres in Tiger Stadium history, but anyone who was there knows that it was. And Cecil was exploding out of the backfield like no RB I had seen. That biggest "what could have been" loss of a player there was after he got kicked off the team, etc.

The DiNardo era and the Saban era had some of the most electrifying atmospheres imaginable.

Word was that our 95 defensive game plan was what Nebraska used in the NC game when they destroyed UF. We got physical with their WRs and slowed down the Fun and Gun more than anyone else had. Spurrier wanted his revenge.

I feel like we’ve lost a ton of games like that. One recently that always will come to mind is 29-0.

That damn game was heartbreaking. TS was louder than ever. It was competitive for about a quarter and a half. Just couldn’t do anything and the defense only held up so long.

Wade Richey definitely had the leg to make that 65 yarder. Too bad it was blocked.

Pre-smartphone days

Everyone was watching the game.

Hands were free for clapping. Voice was used for yelling while LSU was on defense.

Just a different time in history.
