In Steele's first season (1999), Baylor finished with a 1–10 record (the school's worst since 1969). During the 1999 season, Steele's Baylor team was involved in what ESPN.com called one of the top 10 worst coaching decisions, in 1999, when he chose a running play rather than a kneel down with his team leading and possessing the ball in the game's final 12 seconds and the opponent (UNLV) out of timeouts. The ensuing Baylor fumble and UNLV return for a touchdown gave the Rebels a shocking win.[4]

I remember seeing this on ESPN later in the day and thinking, "How fricking stupid was that decision and how does this guy keep his job?"

Thankfully he would be DC and not the new OC.

It would perfectly complement Cam Cameron's 1-15 head coaching record in the NFL

You remember what you were thinking about this one random play, by a 1-10 team, 15 years later?

Come on...

Think about the time management synchronization that he will have on the field with Les Miles! We are destined for great confusion on the field.

Absolutely a bad hire as DC.
Book it, if this is who we settle for, we're heading in the tank faster than the Titanic.
It better not happen for all our sake.

If this happened, probably would check back in with the program in 3 to 5... When we would be looking for a whole new staff

I remember thinking how stupid this decision was, not even which teams were involved, until now.

If we hire this guy I'm not going to a single LSU game next year. I don't even think Bama fans like him as a position coach. He was a shitty DC what makes him qualified to coach as one at LSU?

If this guy is hired I'm going to have to jump on the conspiracy train and say it's so they can get Miles out of here faster. Only logical conclusion.

I remember the game. Here's how it played out. Baylor had the ball at the goal line. Baylor's coach said that he was trying to instill in his players a killer instinct. So they called to punch the ball in the endzone. Baylor fumbled and the ball was scooped and ran almost 100 yards the other way to cost Baylor the game.
