Is it just me, or has the overall passion of the fans in general shifted to a more civil and milder tone? Seems like the fans of yesteryear were more raucous than of the ones today. Why is that?

No doubt. Seems like heckling the opponent is frowned upon now whereas used to be the norm in certain parts of the park

Like someone said earlier, I've been to funerals that had more atmosphere than some of the games this year. Its partly a product of what's on the field but LSU has done alot to dismantle the experience. The concessions suck, few areas can drink beer outside the gate between innings anymore, too much corporate bullshite, beer tents that you cant see the game from and ridiculously expensive beer in them, tickets expensive as hell. Much could be done to make it rowdy like it used to be, but it just isn't inviting to that anymore and it sucks arse.

It’s not the stadium, its a different generation. In the prime of LSU baseball you would get a handful of regular season baseball games on tv. If you wanted to see them play you had to have you butt in the stands. Now every game is on tv and you can find a lot of reasons to just watch it at your house.

Its incredible what Alleva and F King did to LSU. Not in a good way. I still dont understand how these cock suckers ended up at LSU.

You can find threads at least 4 years old of people bitching about both. Neither were respected at their previous tenures, it’s mind boggling how LSU hired both.

Of course the New Box is a much nicer stadium, but in many ways the Old Box had a better atmosphere. Although it held fewer people, the Old Box was much louder when both stadiums were at their peaks. I attribute this not so much to the lack of passion of the current fans, but to the layout of the stands. The Old box was more compact. The fans were closer to the field and the stadium held the noise better. The New Box is more spread out.

This...

I live about 4 hours away from BR so it’s hard to make many games, but I still catch a few every season. It’s DEFINITELY milder in that regard. I used to love the heckling that went on in the old box. Very raucous crowds back then, but they were also great about being intimidating without crossing the line (at least most of the time). Nowadays... half of the crowd looks bored and too many just play on their phones, or whatever, with little to no life whatsoever.

The teams have took on the personality of the NON passionate coach........ Bad product AT LSU means fans will not be the same as they were..................

Miss that old place

From regional to super regional wins

Playing rag ball in right field jacking bombs onto Nicholson and having to go get the ball.

Great memories

Did they ever draw up any plans to renovate/expand the old place versus building the shitty drab sterile new one? Seems they could have built something much more substantial around the wonderful classic old bones of what they had and come up with something better and likely more economical than the half-assed already dated place they gave us instead.

I don’t recall seeing anything, but I have to think that was at least floated with some sort of basic mock-up, no?

Student attendance at games is also dreadful, especially in recent years.

The Old Box was intimidating as hell. Some memories as an opponent include:

- the bleachers by our bullpen with a low fence and LSU fans sticking their heads and bodies over the fence yelling at you while warming up and wearing out you and every other soul that ventured to the pen. Some classic one liners that we still laugh at today.

- taking a dump as LSU was hitting and the bathroom shaking from the fans going nuts. Walked back out and LSU had hit a homerun and put up a couple runs which explained the earthquake.

- the RF bleachers (early internet days) heckling our players. They even brought a sign for our backup RF in case he got in the game.

Yes. It came down to 1) the real estate where the old Box was located was coveted by LSU for other purposes, and 2) the train tracks adjacent to the old Box on the west and Nicholson Dr. on the east limited expanding the stadium and providing offices, training and meeting rooms, indoor batting cages and locker rooms.
