How many of you know that up to about the mid 80's, if the offense (visitor) went to the line and couldn't hear the signals due to the crowd noise, the home team could be penalized?

Of course it was called. Did u really ask that?

Remember when: if the kicker kicked the ball out of the end zone, it was a penalty against him?

I remember. And definitely sounds like a penalty that would fit in well in today’s world.

Was called in the home game against Ohio State in 87. Just made the crowd louder.

I was at that game. Earl Bruce (frickeye coach) poured gas on the fire from the beginning by refusing to bring his team out of the tunnel first.
Their QB (Tom Tupa) screwed up bigtime on the first series by trying to "shush" the crowd. BIG MISTAKE. I know the refs warned us a couple times, don't remember if actually penalized. I do know the refs finally told Tupa to just "snap the damn ball!!!"

This was a big thing for Saints preseason games, I remember. Want to say it was '89? Saints crowd would get so loud they would keep calling penalties, so the next game they were passing out signs that say "YAY" on one side and "BOO" on the other.

Wish I had kept it.

I know I've heard stories of the rule in the NFl and it being called a few times in the superdome

The fight with Andelsok and Chris Spielman was pretty bad arse. I was 16 at the time and remember that game as when I really started paying attention to football. Still sit in the same seats 35 years later.

That was awesome. I was a student and lived in Hatcher Hall; The stories about taunting the opponent's buses coming in to Tiger Stadium were definitely true back then...There were thousands of Tiger Fans including myself at the SE visiting team entrance to the stadium when they got off the buses screaming Tiger Bait...all the OSU players just walked in looking straight ahead...except Spielman....he openly stared all of us down as he walked in...
