Rectangle on both sides of field

Would someone be kind enough to explain the use of the rectangles with the numbers 1-10 just outside of the sidelines at the 50 yard line on both LSU and the visitor's side in Death Valley? I've come up with nothing on google, etc. Thanks for your replies.

You line up on the spot to make sure you go out with 10 guys. No one is gonna forget the kicker / punter.

Helps to make sure you have everyone who is supposed to be on the field for the special teams. It really comes into play when someone has been injured and you need another guy to take his place. Easy to overlook an injured player for special teams with the pace of the game.
