4 seems fair. His fan club is going to melt over this but you don’t coach the talent he had and basically never have any success in the tournament without having some flaws in your X’s and O’s

That's such a dogshit take.

We hadn't won a tournament game in 10 years before Will Wade and we finished dead last in the SEC the first year after him.

Your ambiguous "game understanding" grade is fricking retarded. He won. That's all I know.

Probably a 6-6.5 range.

His offensives were probably as good as LSU will ever see so he must have some understanding of how to get the most out of his guys.

I was worried he was overthinking defense he entire tenure then his last team showed he can also coach an elite defensive team.

Just never got it all together, real bummer that if it happens for him it won't be here.

His coaching was very dependent on talent

He won 104 games in 5 years, at this pace CMM should catch him in 2033, don’t know about knowledge of the game but I ain’t got 10 years to analyze.
He also had 55 SEC wins so 25?years in conference for CMM

He only coached one NCAA tournament. One of his teams made it to the sweet 16 without him coaching. Not sure how you can even say that...

Typically posters who say this on here couldn't explain high level basketball Xs and Os to save their life

Offense C+ ( Knew the best ways he can use his players talents to score but would get stopped by teams with similar talent level players from time to time. Great defensive teams would give us trouble.
Defense B+ (Knew his teams were very athletic. Would switch schemes based on opponents. His extended 1-3-1 was a nightmare for most teams.

Talent Development A- ( Players always seemed to take the next step in their development each year on the team. Skylar Mays as an example. Players like Trendon Watford came in with a bunch of talent with low basketball IQ. By the time Watford left… he was a High Iq player.

That being said, Wade knew how to get his guys to play hard every night, he developed talent both physically and mentally. Team won in the clutch time after time. You knew a cool calm and collected team was taking the floor. His Xs and Os were not the best but serviceable. Overall grade of him minus recruiting I’d give an 8.2. For someone who was barely 40 years old. He would have grown and learned what he would need to improve on from an Xs and Os perspective.

That being said Wade is a special coach and still has a bright future a head of him.

Seriously, his 2018-19 team won the SEC regular season and went undefeated on the road in conference play. We were at best the 3rd most talented team in the league behind UT and UK.

That’s not just recruiting.

Also in a 5 year span, he produced multiple top 20 teams in offensive efficiency and then a top 20 defensive efficiency team. That too is not by accident.
