Rece (Witherspoon) Davis ESPN Remarks on LSU Job

Background up front, I don't like this man and don't watch anything on ESPN other than LSU games...too much PC for an old man.
This afternoon after Miles let go, he is speaking over phone with studio person (?). His remarks summarized below:
1) Prior to Saban, LSU derailed several good head coache's careers...never really explained what that was in reference to
2) State laden with talent, but no matter who they brought in as head coach they couldn't produce what they believed they should be
3) Saban fixed LSU. They were a sleeping giant and never performed up to potential
4) Miles kept LSU right on what Saban built, but mostly because there is no in state competition for players
5) Presents a back to point (2) that no matter who they hire, it will be particularly difficult to keep it at a high level where it was...but but but I mean, not to say it isn't an elite job, because it is.
6) Back to point (1), it will again be difficult to bring it back to the level that Saban brought it and Miles maintained for a while.
He could have made a few good points here, but nooooo the Bama prick has to get his benchmark Saban idol.
Time for bed now.
edited for so-an-so; the Reese sounded better with Witherspoon.

It's hard for any program to have a 10 year run where you are relevant every year. What Les did was impressive and hopefully he will be remembered as such.

I thought he was an Ole Piss guy.

If that summary is remotely accurate, the Bama in Davis finally came out. All Bama folks are sad to see Les go.

It's paraphrased. Search ESPN Reese Davis Les Miles and you can listen...I just added the Witherspoon for attention.
He has and always will be a Bama worshiper. It wasn't nearly so much what he said as can be seen from my listing, but the general tone of voice he uses when speaking anything other than Bama.

He's a Bama alum, so this isn't surprising. They all think LSU can't be a great team and it is unreasonable to expect success like Bama. While to an extent true, he clearly knows very little about why LSU struggled in the 80's and 90's.
LSU had the misfortune of having their top notch coaching hire die in a plane crash recruiting before even coaching a game. The made a panic hire that was not ready for it. Then Arnsparger screwed them by snaking Spurrier and they took a risk settling on Archer on the cheap. They then again took the cheap route and hired Curley based off Favre's carrying his team.
Finally, they hired DiNardo, which actually was a good hire and once he returned LSU to a very competitive teams, took his feet right out from under him by refusing to pay market-value for assistants, thus losing Carl Reese (DC) prior to 1998 and Watt (OC) after the 1998 season.
Saban and Emmert came in and basically said you either give me control and full support or it won't happen. That is what changed LSU football. An admin willing to pony up for a championship level staff. After that, Bertman hired a mediocre coach in Miles but they paid his staff handsomely covering up many of his deficiencies for a while.
Outside of the Bear schooling everyone, LSU was a top flight team for much of the 50's through the early 80's.

Me neither. His analysis was pretty spot on.

Reese Davis is shook like the rest of the SEC and country. They like the status quo and know the right coach would disrupt the Tuscaloosa dynasty.

Geauxgurt,
Some of the response in this thread do not understand of what you speak. You were apparently around during these times as I was and you understand more succinctly what actually occurred. You are 100% on target. Personally believe that if Bo Rein had come to LSU, the whupass on Alabama would have commenced...but I digress to when I was young an impressionable!
Again I say, not so much what he says, but the inherent condescending tone he generally uses when speaking of LSU.
I AM HIGHLY BIASED AGAINST THIS MAN...I do admit that.

10, 12, 13 and 15 were all Ten win seasons with 3 bowl wins in those 4 years also
You're stretching for irrelevance
