after the '08 season, i felt that '09 would be a rebuilding year (esp at qb)and that '10 would be our year to compete at the top level. with the last two recruiting classes, the performance of our offense in '09 and the current age and experience of our team, i now feel that '10 will be a "rebuilding" year also. we seem to have a lot of talented guys that will be very young that will need to step up. i know there is a tendency to buy into the "recruiting hype"; that is that incoming freshmen are more talented than present players, but i see a lot of new names at key positions. if we can find JJ's replacement (for '12), i think LSU is gonna kick some major booty in the next few years.

If the talent develops across the lines maybe, but the staff has done a bad job of bringing it in (specifically on the o-line) and devoloping what they do get.

Without an oline, it doesn't matter who the qb and rbs are.

Sad thing is that Les was an OL and doesn't know how to teach his players to get better (at the position he should known the most).

Nick Saban was a defensive back in his playing day and his DBs are always good, doesn't matter where he coaches.

2010 is not rebuilding, I think it is just getting prepared for 2011. Lot's of young players on both sides of the ball, lack of experience on both sides of ball. Jefferson still has room to grow and develop to become a better QB than he currently is.
2011 LSU has 0 excuses for losing more than 2 games as they will have experience every where on the field with a senior QB at the helm.

I'm happy we won 9 games in '09, and could've won a 10th game against Mississippi, but the lasting impression I have of last year is: getting pushed around the field. Getting pushed around on both sides of the line. That's what needs to change if we're really going to be a better team in 2010. Well, that along with more competent game management by Miles.

man, i'm gonna say we don't have any excuses, barring key injuries, from losing more than 1 game.

I am going 2, just because I believe Alabama/Florida may be better than LSU in 2011. Sometimes teams are just better than others on any given day so 2 sounds a safer guess to me.
Crowton/Chavis/Les could not blame youth at that point because really LSU will Seniors/Juniors at almost every position on the field.

Sounds a lot like rebuilding to me.

Not to me because LSU will still be the most talented team on the field in almost every single game.

I think our offensive line is in good shape. You guys do remember about Williford, Lowe, Hagans and Branch. These guys will be RS freshman or sophs next year. Blackwell or Hurst supplanting Hitt will be an upgrade.

The DT position could be deeper but I think Downs and Nevis are pretty stout. Hope Davenport plays like a 5 star recruit.

It will all come down to QB play. If JJ elevates his game, we'll do well in 2010. If not, we will lose 3 or 4. It's all on JJ.

I got to give Miles a pass on the o-line as far as what he has available. Should he have said last years line was going to be one of the best ever? NO. But its time to move on with what we have.

He only has Hitt left from the 05 class. Black is on his way out and Holmes never qualified. That class only yeilded 13 total recruits because Saban bailed at the last minute leaving no time to really get that class in line.

The 06 linemen class, 4 of the 6 left for other schools, 1 had career ending injury and Deas never qualified leaving 0 linemen from the 06 class.

The 07 class had 7 o-linemen and as of now one is gone with a career ending injury, 2 have left the team and the other 4 are pretty seasoned in Barsdale, Hebert, Blackwell and Droraczyk.

08 and 09 classes are very young but at this point all that committed are still on the team so it looks like Miles has found away to keep these guys from leaving. Both were outstanding classes for olinemen, so I would expect a huge improvement. 6 olinemen from the 08 class and 5 in 09.

We have a stock pile of them. For what its worth Miles has proven himself at Okl St and even before that that he can coach an oline pretty descent. These guys are young but a lot have gained valuable experince quickly. I have got to believe they will be better in 2010.

Yeah they were "REAL" good when they got toasted against Georgia and Florida. I like the DBs as a whole now versus then. Even when we got beat badly against Florida in 2008, it was all running game (265 yards). In 2004, David Greene threw for 5 TDs against Saban's secondary.

The trend that must change is when we've lost to the top teams no matter who was coaching, we would have 80 yards or less rushing. We need to be effective running every game versus the good and average teams.

You might be right, but I also think the schedule is more favorable for 2011. Recently our major successes have come in odd numbered years. But that had to do with Alabama's sanction imposed slump as well I suppose.

Truth hurts. Go look at every season. We struggled with Ole Miss and Arkansas most seasons over the last 10 years. One of those games usually resulted in a loss. Miles still did win more games than Saban in 5 seasons at LSU. And Saban had a 1 loss NC versus a 2 loss NC by Miles, however Miles still ended up with more wins.

Though we do lose a lot, I don't think it's at really critical positions. Scott, Lafell, and Black are our biggest offensive losses, but for various reasons none of them really produced last year up to their potential(Scott--terrible oline and injury, Lafell--not a good passing QB throwing him balls, Black--not sure), so we won't necessarily miss their production. But the biggest thing is that we'll finally have an upperclassman at QB, and both our lines should be much improved.

We play Bama at home, and catch Florida breaking in a lot of new starters, especially at QB. We can be good in '10. And 3 straight "rebuilding" years would be unaccecptable, even to us "posiest" of tigers.

My main concern is choosing the right running backs (2 headed monster) and offensive linemen that are best for the team. We also need a lead blocker which is critical. I would suggest they convert a TE to a lead blocker if the FBs are not up to speed. At least that way you can actually keep the defense off balance with the run and pass. Parsons needs to go back to the o-line because he is not a threat as a receiver or a runner (except in short yardage situations).

They've also got to work on the pass rush or put the guys in that can get into the back field and disrupt plays.
