More of a 4-1-6 really.

What I found interesting was the personnel. A lot of times we had 1 DT, 1 DE who was lined up inside, 1 DE in the normal spot, and KB lined up at the other DE. So 1 DE was pretty much playing DT and KB was at the other DE. And Debo was the 1 LBer.

I liked what I saw from it and it worked for the most part.

We did some of this early in the year and then went away from it. If I remember right we ran this type of defense against MSU and AU.

Steele came out with a great game plan. Of course nobody on this board will give him credit.

yea, Steele has grown on me a lot. I think he'll do and is an improvement over the Chavis of the last few years. we are recruiting larger guys to compete with the bama's and ole miss. with RECRUITING being the key word.

Looked like I saw White playing some safety also.

Liked the matchup as it put a faster LB in the middle of the field with the ability to defend RB's out of the backfield. Where was this alignment all season? I thought it was a very ATH front when you had Key, Neal, Godchaux and Beck rushing the passer...Debo as the MLB. Amazing that all of them, except Debo, could be back next season. Just amplifies why Beckwith returning is as BIG as any incoming recruit for 2016. Without him we have a serious GAP at the LB position.

We certainly had a good game plan but guys, it helps when their o line can't block our DL. That was probably just as big of aviator as anything

Agreed. As discussed at other times during the season, we must sign depth at D-Line, pull in a couple of beasts at LB/Safety and sure up OL departures.

QB is still a hole that must be address regardless of tonight's long pass route success. The more timing nuanced capabilities are still not present and is a must to open up our running game with the more talented defenses in the SEC.

The front 7 was very good overall. The continued Offsides penalties (3 more tonight) are crazy, but they generated pressure and limited the short passing game to mainly short gains. That and running the ball (surprisingly) is TTU's bread and butter, and our front took both away.

The secondary still had some warts tonight. Jackson and KT are improving, and have the potential to be great, but they still miss a lot of plays. KT got beat up a couple of times. He gave up a big TD where the WR got behind him, pushed him around, and was just more physical and aggressive. He came close to giving up another one early, but thankfully their QB under threw it and he was able to make up ground and bat the ball away. Even White got char-broiled on another long ball. He was a step and a half behind his guy on that one.

I think the front 7 has turned the corner. If Neal and LaCouture stay, we will have more depth and experience next year. We will just need a couple of young guys to step up and bolster the line. Lab could be more of an issue if Beckwith leaves, but the creative wrinkles we saw up front tonight give me some hope that Steele and O will work around what we have.

The secondary is still a concern, though. White will probably leave, and KT and DJ still have plenty of learning to do. I don't think we can count on anything from D Thomas anymore. These guys have to be better than 50 in the FBS for the team to be successful in the SEC. It's a passing league now.

I agree and eluded to it earlier in this thread, but i think d-back play will improve during the off season.

It's pretty much the same D we ran against Johnny Football when Kliff was at Texas A&M.
