Realistically, look to the 2018-2019 season as a true measure of Canada and the Offense

Let's be perfectly honest, no championships are being won with the current QBs that participated in the Spring game.

The reality is we will know what we have once Brennan and Narcisse are in the program at least year and are legit competing for the starting nod. By then hopefully we see dramatic improvement in QB play which hopefully leads to competing for the conference crown.

Look for an 8-4 to 9-3 year with more exciting offensive play calling but the inability to push the field vertically on any consistent basis this year.

CLM made it to the national championship game with the dynamic duo of Lee and Jefferson. I agree that we probably won't win it all this year, but any sort semblance of an offense gives us a fighting chance. They're serviceable QBs.

ETA: If we don't win 10 games I think this season will be a disappointment. There are enough pieces in place to win 10 games.

I'm pretty tired of the saying "the true measure is x years down the road" and, in the blink of an eye, x years has passed, and i'm hearing another "the true measure is x years down the road"

Just give me some good offense this year damnit

Son of a bitch. I thought I caught it in time

I prefer to just say Les Miles. I'm not sure when the CXX started.

agreed. Hell, Ohio State won it all with a 3rd string QB. Bama made it to the playoffs with Blake Sims and won it all with Jake Coker.

We don't need Joe Montana under center. With a new offensive scheme that gets the ball to our playmakers and is unpredictable, we can go far with merely competent QB play.

I think this coaching staff has the ability to blow out inferior competition whereas under Miles we played down to opponents and games ended closer than they should have been.

But it is more than just Etling as a weak link on offense. This WR core is probably the least experienced group outside of the 2014 team after OBJ and Landry left early. We have no all conference OTs on this roster and very few tackles at all.

So yes, Etling isn't going to take over a game but our weapons outside of Guice at RB on offense are weaker than most years.

Why can't we look at this season as a true measure of Canada and the offense? We have a better chance this year with a less talented veteran QB vs next year with a more talented QB with zero starts. IMO.

Well that will also mean...

And that will be the mantra for the next 4 years. "Next Year, when he has his players." "Next Year, when he replaces Matt Canada." Will take an act of congress to get rid of him if he fails.

im always perfectly honest. it gets me in trouble a lot.

I have not given up on our current QB's. Etling performed well enough to beat every opponent we had last year except Bama. there is no reason to doubt that he will do at least that this year. I don't give a rat's arse how he looked in the spring game.

The defense will reload this year and i really dont think the defense will drop off one bit with Key back in the fall. Its all going to come down to if Canada can make Danny Etling servicable. This is the million dollar question. if he is 10-2 and a shot at a great bowl. if not 8-4 back to shitslayer bowl

I am Pollyanna cheerleader. I visualize 15-0. Beating Aubie, Bama, and Arkansas by the same 20-17 on a very very late FG. Beating Georgia in the Dome 20-17 on the last play of the game.
On to the playoffs. Seeded #3 despite the 15-0, the LSU Tigers go up against the 12-1 Ohio State Meyers. LSU wins, LSU wins, 24-21 on the last play.

On to the championship game vs upset winner Southern Cal, coming in at 11-2 and victor over the #1 seed 11-1 Alabama Elephants, who beat all their other opponents but LSU by 30 or 40 or even 60 two times (Aubie and UTk), but lost to LSU on 4 tipped ball completions on the last drive. Everyone who saw it said that Bama was so much better and their D pushed the LSU o-line around, but hey! Bama has 12 fumbles in a driving rain, and LSU wins!!

They need to perform well in 2017 and they need to be run out of town if they don't.

We are not going to be "next year U."

Holy shite.

So now its ok to be 8-4 and 9-3 with recruiting classes like this...

2014- #2
2015- #6
2016- #3
2017- #7

There is zero excuse for only winning 8 games.
In 2014 Miles won 8 games with Anthony Jennings and bunch of true and redshirt freshman.
