The eye test doesn't tell the whole story any more than the stats do. Etling showed some positive things last night, but the second half was not good.

No doubt

I am of the opinion that a QB isn't going to get it going by throwing 6 times in a half.

hell i've watched drew brees miss 5-6 times in a row. Doesn't mean you stop throwing it.

This goes for Harris and Etling. But I saw a QB who didn't look flustered, had pocket awareness, and threw accurate passes and didn't let the ball sail on over half of his sideline stop routes.

above Harris in my book.

So that's the only objective here? Convincing the world he's better than Harris? I don't know anyone who wants Harris as qb. Simply because he's struggling so horrendously.

That said, even with Etlings brilliant 2nd quarter- we still only completed 8 passes in the game. 8 passes. That's beyond bad. Did Etling play better than Harris? Of course. Is he our savior? Not yet. Hopefully he can continue to improve and help us move forward.

I think he's either buddies with harris or is related

it's the only thing I can take away from someone who could even attempt at saying Etling didn't look better. It's plain as day. Even the announcers agreed that Etling should start vs MSU.

So what was Etling's excuse in the 2nd half last night?
Easy. The play calling. They allowed Etling to throw it eight times in the second quarter. They only allowed him to throw it six times in all the second half. It's important for a young QB to stay in rhythm and get reps. Our staff doesn't allow that.

You must be related to Harris or something because you are the only one who thinks a qb that can't even throw a 3 yd pass without sailing it 10 yds over their heads should be the starter. Sounds like you are as pissed as miles that Etling looked better than Harris did.

i'm pretty sure you're responding to the same guy who said as soon as Les took over play calling in the 3rd, Etling played like shite. Aka Les' play calling is why Harris let's balls sail to the fricking stands.

I'll be the first to agree that Cam and Miles need to be shown the door, but to act as though Etling had 2nd quarter success because the offense was "different" is just idiotic. He is better than Harris and that's that.

You watched the coaches film? That's the only way you would know he made the right reads.

As far as looking more poised and comfortable in the pocket there is no question...but to say stats don't matter is pretty moronic

So you don't think we went back to original offense more in the 2nd half.

dude, there is more to offense than just passing and running. The offensive scheme was still the exact damn same. The difference is that as soon as Etling missed a couple, they began running the ball more. The offense wasn't taken over by Les any more than it ever has been and Etling didn't have some 2nd quarter play calling advantage that Harris wasn't privy to. You're just making shite up.

I never said he wasn't better than Harris. On the contrary, I feel that he's much further developed than Harris. That's quite apparent from his pocket presence and how he scans the field. It's probably from his time spent at Purdue where he got meaningful reps.

I feel like he'd be great if we threw it 8-10 times a quarter(mostly out of 3-4 WR sets). That won't happen though. Miles would have a heart attack and kill over.

If Guice catches that ball and Chi doesn't play like shite he'd have easily been 9-14 with 2 TDs and no INT. I'm baffled you jackasses can't see that.

yea and we just didn't throw much in the second half and 3 passes were deep passes.

any coach that coaches for stats ain't long for the game. the object is to do what needs to be done to win the game. but, considering Etling only played for 2 and a half quarters his stats in Guice or Dupre would have caught their pass (either one) would have been respectable.

He had a great 2nd quarter and looked confident throwing and scrambling. He didn't do anything in the 3rd and 4th though and that was against a FCS team. Expect people to come back down to Earth soon.
