Because I think Austin was a better defensive shortstop? When the stats prove that? No. I'm not drunk.

It's really weird that for someone who actually played that you're also the biggest stat nerd. Nola was more consistent making routine plays but did not have the range, athleticism, or arm that Bregman had/has. Bregman made plays consistently that Austin just flat out could not. That is not even debatable. And the fact you brought up their rings is hilarious.

He had better range. He didn't have a significantly better arm. He made errors on more easy plays. I'll take the consistent guy 100% of the time when all I'm losing is a step left and right and very little arm strength.

Bringing up rings is my way of messing with 1988. Nothing more.

Yeah. Having a career 0.300 average at LSU is "weak"
It certainly isnt good with the old bats. I would put it as weak/average when discussing in terms of LSU players

So when he hit 0.300 over the next 3 years with the new bats? Weak?

I'm on your side in this, but I'm pretty sure they didn't change the bats till after the 2010 season. Point still stands. Austin hit pretty well with the new bats.

So if we compare Bregman and Nola's last year as an LSU player:

Bregman had 9 errors, Nola 5
Bregman had 222 assists, Nola 148
Bregman had 128 putouts, Nola 93
Bregman's fielding % was .975, Nola .980
Bregman played in 66 games, Nola 64

Yes, I think Bregman had considerably more range based on the number of balls he got to and had a marginally worse fielding %. I'd take Bregman all day long with those numbers.

I know you want to compare their entire careers, but Bregman played catcher in high school and stepped into the hardest infield position as a Freshman. He had 17 errors as a Freshman and 19 the next two years combined

19, pls

You know as well as I do that assist totals have just as much to do with pitching as they do with range. You get a bunch of groundball-style pitchers, and you're going to get more groundballs. I already said he had a step each way. I can cherry pick two years for each player and they are very similar.

2010 - 176 assists for Nola
2011 - 162 assists for Nola
2013 - 174 assists for Bregman
2014 - 187 assists for Bregman

I didn't cherry pick anything. I used each's last year in the program. And 80 more assists is pretty damn significant and one step in either direction is too when a ball is coming at you at 100 mph.
