that is because the schools that draw in a lot of folks to their spring game draw the folks to campus with a lot of other events like baseball games, concerts, etc.
for instance, this was Super Bulldog Weekend at MS State...

I graduated from LSU in '84 and don't remember anyone ever giving a rat's butt about the Spring Game.

I was at LSU from 85 to 89. I don't remember even having a Spring game in those years. I know the band didn't play in them, since I was in both the marching band and basketball bands and would have gone.

The spring game is pretty useless for the fans. I have been to a few and it nice to see s little football. Coaches are watching for certain things from certain players. That's about it. I actually praise lsu fans for having other things to do. Ohio State had over 100,000 fans for a spring game..... Really???????

The first one I attended was in 1968 and that was the year before the 9-1 Record in 1969. The team in 1969 was probably the best team that LSU had and especially the Defense. I tried to go every year and the last one I went to was in 2006 the year I moved out of the U.S. If I was still there I would be going to the Spring Games. I enjoyed just getting out and eating somewhere and talking to friends at the game. I always saw someone that I knew. One year and cannot remember the year, I got to sit with Benjy Thibodeaux. Jim Burks was there also who was Shawn's brother.
