Isaiah Washington just got out of surgery. Who pays for the surgery when a college athlete has to undergo some type of procedure?

I assume LSU's insurance company

If the injury occurred during activities related to their sport, then LSU (via their insurance company) will cover all associated costs.

Yes, the school/insurance pays for it and I'm sure like most schools LSU has access to the best orthopedic docs in the area. Had my ACL/MCL repaired due to injury while at Madison and I didn't have to pay a cent.

Interesting info here LINK
TL;DR, the NCAA provides, free of charge, a catastrophic umbrella policy with a $90k deductible, and requires student athletes to have a policy covering costs up to that deductible. The school is permitted, but not required to pay for that individual policy. I assume LSU and other major schools do, but I guess some shoestring programs make the kids pay the premiums themselves.

Both of my college baseball players had surgeries and the college's insurance covers the costs of surgeries and rehabilitation.

I have a daughter that played D2 basketball and had two ACL surgeries during her college career. We filed on our insurance and the school picked up what wasn't covered by our insurance.
