This drill is just a straight up physical match up, and those will typically favor the offensive lineman. Defensive guys will use speed, technique, hitting gaps, spins, stunts, etc. to make their living. And those aren't allowed in this drill.

Exactly. Plus, a Chavis DL is not built to be a landmass. These guys shouldn't win in a shoving match against a road-grader OL.

It's been a long time since that game and it doesn't look like that has been corrected.
I'm always weary about posting here because it seems like everybody attacks each other for their opinions good or bad.

So IMHO LSU is in for a long year in regards to the QB play and situation.

Before the Iowa game, a poster on here wrote that he watched a lot of practices and that Jennings had a tendency to overthrow and float balls over the middle.

pretty sure that was Dylan Moses' dad, I forget his username. but he did say Jennings tends to miss high and needed work.

Jennings apparently runs the offense better so I will take him right now.

frick that play the more talented guy. It will pay dividends in the long run.

This is a terrible comparison because Rohan had one of the strongest arms ever at LSU.

No he didn't. He threw a great ball, but it wasn't even top 5 at LSU all time.

And I did write this:

quote:

although Rohan certainly didn't have a weak arm by any means

And the point of the comparison was this:

quote:

Booty had an absolute rocket of an arm and was much better in practice, hence why he won starting position. Rohan was the gamer.

So go change out your tampon and get back to your 9th grade geometry class.

I hope the guy that gives us the best chance to win plays the most, but I have no faith in Jennings at this point. He even looks bad throwing to wide open receivers with no defense on the field. I hope he improves and I wish him the best, but I just don't see him being a productive QB in the SEC.

I think maybe Cam will use the first few games as auditions.

I think we can get by the Badgers and MSU running a lot. But by the AU game I have to agree with sunnydaze, we're going to need one guy and stick with him.

This game will look very B1G-ish.

This place will be a shitshow afterwards.

I don't expect more than 15-20 total pass attempts in the first game. hilliard, magee, and fournette will have 250+ yards between the three of them.

Purely power standpoint, probably right - however, he was about an accurate a deep thrower we had, which should get him some points. For that matter, Jamarcus' NFL career has tainted many LSU fans' perception of him - while here, Russell had the best combination of arm strength, accuracy and toughness in LSU history (with Jones and Davey being right behind him).

Heck, right now, with everything on the line, I'll put Rohan Davey on the field to win the game in the 4th quarter, even a little "nicked" - straight up warrior from a different era.

For the life of me, I don't see how anyone can look at that simple drill and come up with a valid conclusion as to which QB is a better starter.

I agree with all of this.

Rohan is the gamer and often didn't do well in practice. That was my point in my original post.

Clearly the only way to settle this is Jennings vs. Harris in the big cat drill.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing more passes to the RB's. With our inexperience at QB, it seems logical that we'll utilize RB and TE's in the passing game.

But this prediction has been made over and over and has been wrong.
