QB competition so far.

After three spring practices so far it is very easy to identify the tool sets of each three of the potential starting quarterbacks for next season. So far Anthony Jennings is taking the first rep, followed by Brandon Harris and then Hayden Rettig. Here's my take thus far on each.
Anthony Jennings- He seems the most comfortable running the offense. His footwork is good and he is the most muscular. He throws with good zip, however he is the least accurate of the three. on his deep balls he has overthrown receivers by 5-10 yards at least half the time. He has struggled with touch passes (where air is put under it allowing the receiver to run under it), which means he will struggle to throw touchdown passes on fade routes. He probably possesses the best knowledge of the offense.
He seemed to be affected the most of the three by the wind.
Brandon Harris- Hands down the most interesting contender. Harris has the strongest arm, throws with the most zip, throws a beautiful deep ball and has nice touch on fade routes. His release is elite, He will be able to get balls to receivers really fast. Overall he has the best arm on the team. Physically he is thin and a bit lanky; he will need to bulk up. he has struggled with the cadence and handing the ball off. As many taller quarterbacks do, he leans too much during his drop back. Overall he seems the most talented but very raw, assuming Cam Cameron does a nice job polishing his technique he will be a good one.
Hayden Rettig- Last year he was too thin and just was not ready to compete physically. he has bulked up significantly. He likely possesses the most accurate arm on the team and is very good throwing short to mid range passes. he also possesses good touch. His deep throws tend to be wobbly, under thrown and have a lot of hang time; thats a combination for a lot of INT's. He seems to have really good technique.
Thanks for reading guys. Let me know if you enjoyed this!

You don't think it is possible to tell what tools a players has after watching a few practices?
He didn't say it is obvious who has the most talent and who will start.
I think it is pretty easy to watch and be able to tell who has the strongest arm or who is the fastest runner.

Has there been any tape whatsoever of them running?

Not sure I said there was. If someone was at practice I'm pretty sure they would see them run.

Is there a more important attribute for a QB?
If there isn't than it's your opinion that Rettig should start

Pretty good analysis. I agree, Harris is the most talented on the team. It will just take time for him to bulk up and have a better grasp of the offense. We will see.

Good information. Looking forward to watching these three compete for the starting job. Of course, the best QB is going to be the second stringer.

I really hope Rettig moves up the depth chart. I am really intrigued by his potential in this offense.

Yes, the competition is very tight and would be unintelligent to say I know who the best is. I'm just reporting what I have seen on their skill sets so far.
So yes, being able to recognize what tools they have is relatively easy for me.

Only running I've seen is play-action and previous film. From what I gather Jennings is the quickest whereas Harris has the best top-speed. Very close between the two.

Dam I hate QB controversy...If only Mett had one more year!!!!!
This crap will have everyone chirping between now and Houston for UW.

Are you going by seeing them live(attending scrimmage) or practice footage off the net?

It is crucial, however there are so many elements that make a good QB. I would argue decision making and quick delivery are more important.

Agree. You can't pinpoint one attribute when you are dealing with multiple QBs that each have a different skillset. Gotta look at the entire package together.

I can throw a ball through a tire hanging from a tree from 20 yards out 8/10 times, but you don't want me as the starting QB at LSU.

Exactly. Can you avoid the pass rush? How is your awareness in the pocket? Can you read a defense?
