you can seen 77 was illegaly down feild.

ummmm... no. O-Linemen are allowed to go downfield on WR screens, as long as the ball is thrown behind them.

y wife & I were discussing this earlier. It seemed more obvious to me than the block-in-the-back. However, I'm not an astute observer of NCAA CFB rules, so I don't know if he could've been flagged for it. Isn't it the case that the OL can move downfield after the WR has possession?
the o-lineman would have to be very fast to be ten yards downfield( as the pic shows) he just caught the ball.

It was a WR Screen. Julio initially burst off the line, then took 3 steps back, and was in fact behind the LOS when he caught it.

The missed call on that play was the block in the back.

I don't have a problem with that no call but the interception and marking off more than 5 yards on the punt block attempt was pathetic. Actually, this photo shows the lineman pushing Taylor towards the sideline if Taylor would have gone where he was being pushed he would have cutoff the sideline limiting the run to no more than 15 or so yards.

Once again... lineman can block downfield on a WR screen. You see this all the time on the WR screen to the middle of the fiend that everyone runs. The ball must be caught behind the linemen though.

You ALMOST got it right, bammer...

It's not that the ball must be caught behind the lineman (otherwise you could run the lineman 15 yards down field, and then throw a 10 yard pass legally.

No, it's that the ball must be caught behind the LINE as in the LINE OF SCRIMMAGE.

You are right, however, that in this case #77 is perfectly legal in blocking downfield, since Julio did in fact catch the ball behind the LOS. What's not allowed is to block the opponent in the back, however.

Watch the fricking video, there's no way you call that a block in the back.

This is evidence of a truly sad condition called "post-defeat demoralization". After realizing that your pride and joy is inferior to it's opponent's, an excuse agenda immediately follows. Once the excuse becomes force fed to the masses, it makes the defeat easier to understand because of the common belief by like-minded individuals. The competition is now held in the argument of the excuse instead of the game itself.

bama fans should be very worried today. It took LSU losing several players to injuries and incompitent officiating for bama to beat LSU.

So he just ran about 2 feet to the left of a player running in a straight line.. on his own? I think our guys are just a little bit better tacklers than that.. they're not the best, but cmon

the OL being downfield was legal (hell we do that all the time on screens), but the more I look at the video, the block in the back very well coulda been called. I think it def. knocked BT off balance. but what can you do.

I agree. It looks like to me that Carpenter's block causes the LSU player to be off balance. It takes him two steps to recover his balance, and by then, Julio is past him.
