Predicting Venables' Scheme

Venables is going to blitz the shite out of Burrow, the tight end lanes should be nice and cozy, among with other underneath WR routes
Joe Brady always has an answer to schemes tailored toward pressure or coverage, and Burrow knows how to get the ball where it needs to go
it's either death by 1000 lashes or death with 1 blow

I’ve come to the conclusion that Venables has no idea what to do and can’t come up with a scheme. Clemson fricked. Joe rolls em up and smokes em.
LSU 48

Continuously blitzing will doom Clemson. Continuously dropping 7-8 back will doom Clemson. And they don't have the personnel to consistently get pressure on JB9 with 4 rushers, especially with our drastically improved OL play. Wanna bring 5? Then CEH finna get his chip block then eat- for 4 quarters.
Venables is just going to have to do his best to mix things up, be unpredictable, and hope to force Burrow into a couple of mistakes.
No matter what has been thrown at Ensminger/Brady/Burrow- they've effectively figured it out and countered it. Venables might find a way to slow our offense down but it would take an NFL team to stop it.
I don't think the biggest story line of the game is our offense vs. their defense... but rather it's their offense vs. our defense. That's where the game will be won or lost.

He is coming after burrow. Guaranteed. Nobody has gotten after him like they are going to come after him.

he will also play the confuse game. like showing man and then switching to zone

I actually think that he's going to lay off in the first LSU Drive and have the Defenders look for things like screens to catch an overly aggressive defense off guard. It would be a smart move except for the fact that Joe Brady and Ensminger are going to be one step ahead of him the entire game. Brady is going to have bro ready to look for hot reads and the receivers are going to be completely on board just in case. He knows that burrow can keep his cool. LSU will be ready for the most part. Venables will win a few series overall but LSU will win all of the rest and drive on them consistently and throw them off balance.
In my lifetime great defense is generally outperform great offenses but this is not that time. LSU just seems to get better and better offensively and really out schemes defenses

Venables is matching wits a former professional football passing game coach....from a team who arguably has the most prolific passer in the history of the game....I think it will be ok

I agree based on a calm and Cool Joe burrow with all of the Joe Brady hot reads

Yep, that’s why he will do neither. A great DC will mix it up. The idea is that when the ball is snapped, and for about 1 second afterwards, the QB doesn’t know what the defense is doing.
I expect Clemson to show some man, run with their men for two or three steps, then fall into zones. They will hope to get a cheap interception, like the one Phillips got before halftime against Alabama.
I also expect some blind side defensive back blitzes. I don’t understand why more teams haven’t done that against LSU. The shotgun makes these less effective, but those DBs aren’t doing teams much good in coverage against LSU, so send them. If you can catch Burrow running a RPO to the right side RB the DB might be able to sneak in there. It’s probably a 1 in 5 shot, but it could cause a turnover.

I agree. I also think Clemson is used to running TE off tackle and running toss options for 9 yards on first down against really slow, passive ACC defenses. They will be shocked when we stuff the run like tOSU did.
I just hope they don't run sunshine too much, it would be bad if he met Chaisson in the hole

When you run the RPO hurry up no huddle it will be difficult to mix things up when you barely have time just to line up on the right man

sounds like Clemson is pretty much fricked

I believe he plays consecutive keep everything underneath. Then starts bringing pressure once the field gets short. Tries to trade field goals for touchdowns.
To counter I think we go tempo.

Doesn't matter, fellas.
See below from their TigerNet board:
Just watched the LSU vs Bama game and here are my observations:
Bama shot them selves in the foot often. Bama's first drive ended inside the 10 yard line after Tua freakishly fumbled the ball. Bama also had a punt snap sail over the punters head which led to 3 points for LSU. Tua had a VERY bad interception right before the half that also led to 7 points for LSU. Bama's LB's were also out of position A LOT. I do not expect that to happen to us.
LSU sets up pick pass plays for big gains. Their receivers can make big catches in 1v1 coverage though. Their offense absolutely can be had with quality defensive play. Alabama was able to get pressure with disguised blitzes but did not always take good angles to get there resulting in Burrow scrambles.
Trevor is going to have another huge day on the ground vs their defense. LSU's DB's seem to give up on plays and are not as near physical as OSU's DBs were. Ross and Higgins are going to have a BIG day.
Bama's receivers had no trouble creating separation against LSU's DBs.
Burrow will scramble, and I can guarantee you our guys will hit him A LOT harder than Bama did.
Burrow WILL make mistakes when pressured. He isn't as careful with the ball as Trevor Lawrence.
LSU doesn't have much depth on defense. They will start wearing down in the 2nd half. If the game is close at the end of the 3rd i'd suspect that our offense will pull away in the 4th.
It's amazing that Alabama only lost that game by 5 considering how many mistakes they made and Tua coming off an injury. I feel a lot better about this game after seeing how they performed against the best team on their schedule.
So, game over. Damn it was fun.
