Steele and Randy Shannon are both LB guys I thought.

while Cooper was a great talent evaluator, he did most of those evals at camp, if you catch my drift.

as long as you're successful at doing that I don't see why it matters.

Either Corey Raymond or Carlton Buckels would be capable replacements for Cooper--hiring either one would bring in a better recruiter and likely Raymond would be a solid X's and O's coach as well.

I don't get why people want guys like that so much. What has Raymond shown so far that makes you think he is a capable DB coach in the SEC?

He doesn't have enough experience. The only positive I see in Raymond is he went from grad assistant to Utah State and then almost instantly to a major program in Neb. But he hasn't coached at Neb long enough to know good he is.

Just because he played DB at LSU, doesn't mean he knows how to coach it well...

Well he did have DBs drafted at Utah State...and a corner from Nebraska is projected as 1 of the type 5 corners this year...

If a major program like Nebraska find his abilities warrant him a position on their staff i think he would serve well at home. From both a coaching and recruiting standpoint.

I think it is a powerful tool in recruiting to convince a player to come to the school you attended...

Not sure you can give a guy credit on guys like that when he has been at each program only a year. You can judge his body of work after about 3-4 years. Then you know what you got. Like Cooper. Loaded USCe up with NFL DBs, came to LSU and we've won Thorpe awards in back to back to seasons. Simon is probably going to be a major stud this year and Mathieu was a heisman finalist.

He had Peterson for two years

Claiborne was coached solely up by him

Mathieu was coached solely up by him

Simon was coached solely by him

Pellini is a defense guru too, no telling how much input he has on the DBs. In Coopers case, whether you say Chavis had a lot of input or not, Cooper was successful way before he came here.

We need somebody proven...not a shot in the dark with potential. We're sitting on a opportunity for another NC appearance next year...
