Your swell to say that.

What about Tim Rebowe at ULL? He was my coach at Destrehan. He has always coached DBs and is a great recruiter, dude is relentless and would own the River Parishes.

Obviously we should hire Saban to coach DB's and hire Petrino to replace Gonzo as Passing Game Coordinator.

I am read this thread and you all seem more concerned with a coach who can recruit and I agree that should be a factor, but the main key I would like to see another coach of Coops caliber who can take a lesser talented athlete (2 or 3 star) and develop him into a NFL caliber player and those kind of coaches are really rare!

Stop and think about it on this one. We can be pretty sure that Schiano contacted LSU to ask for permission to speak with Cooper.
Hell, even if he didn't, there have been some rumblings on this staff about Cooper prior to this. I'm pretty sure Chavis has several folks in mind about who he wants to hire.
I'm also pretty sure Chavis is going to have lots of latitude to make this decision.
Trust the Chief, ya'll.

How great would it be to really have Ryan Clark on staff coach in waiting if he could actually coach? He'll be available soon, but not soon enough for us.
What about Randy Shannon?

Rodney Harrison maybe? Darren Woodson? Not sure how many ex-players have made that happen.

Yeah, we know.
Problem is, we need a Defensive Backs coach, not a Douche Bag coach.

Fella, I know personally people that you have listed that have undergrads to put you to shame and JDs to boot. Your a legend in your on mind. And a little immature I might add.

You can add another name at LSU. I'm now hearing that Nebraska defensive backs coach Corey Raymond could emerge as a strong candidate for the defensive backs job.
Don't be surprised if former Clemson defensive coordinator / linebackers coach Kevin Steele enters the mix at LSU to replace Ron Cooper. After interviewing for the special teams coordinator job with the Jacksonville Jaguars a couple of weeks ago, Ron Zook stated that he's likely to sit out this year, but if there is a job that Zook might consider if contacted, it could be LSU. Also, Baylor defensive backs coach Carlton Buckels would presumably have an interest in the job.

Saw that this morning and sent to M.

Steele has a HUGE connection to Chavis.
They went to HS together & played & roomed at Tennessee together. Chavis considers Steele's late father a 2nd father figure in his life. They are extremely close outside of the coaching profession.
Steele has been a HC at Baylor, & a NFL DC for Carolina between 1995-1998. He was Saban's first DC at Bama, & just got canned at Clemson.
He was known as a good recruiter coming out of FSU back in the day.

yes, but his recruiting luster seemed to wear off a bit at clemson and bama and has very little DB experience. Not saying Chavis won't push for him or that he won't get the job, but doesn't look like it'd be a great hire on the surface

those were my thoughts after looking up Steele's job history.

I'm not sure what he'll bring to the recruiting department other than saying it'll be better than it was, but he's got a sound defensive mind. He's been a good talent evaluator in the past & he knew his sh!t in the NFL.
I am also not going too far out on the limb by saying that he'll be a much better recruiter than was Cooper. Don't wanna get into it, but while Cooper was a great talent evaluator, he did most of those evals at camp, if you catch my drift.
