Here we go.

@Brett_McMurphy Pending approval - which it will be approved - @CFBPlayoff headed to 12 teams. Earliest start would be after 2023 regular season, sources told @Stadium . Because of impact of expanded playoff, expect anywhere from 4-10 bowls to be eliminated by 2023, sources said

I dont think 2023 is the earliest it can be done

The date of implementation of a potential new format was not a part of the working group's proposal and would be a matter considered if any recommendation is approved by the board of managers. Hancock said the format will not change this year or next year. The current agreements for the four-team CFP extend through the 2025-26 season.

With our annual talent, as much as I don’t like this for the sport, this is a good thing for LSU.

So what's the most games a team could play in season in this format?

12 regular season
1 Conf Champ
4 playoff games?

You almost want to be at 1 loss and #2 in the west. Avoid the conference championship, still make the playoffs, and get a first round game at home.

This helps LSU, UGA, Florida, Texas A&M getting in. LSU could be in almost yearly

I’m guessing they would cut some of the non conference games. I can’t imagine college players playing 17 games

And still play Bama again.

Would the additional gamers require college athletic union approval?

Regardless, the institution we all know and love is on its way out.

The networks aren’t going to turn down a bigger inventory of playoff games a few years early

The 4 team playoff has unquestionably been bad for the sport.

I don't think the 12 team playoff solves the problems. College football is on an uncorrectable downward slide because of the game becoming staler every year and more and more corporatey like the NFL.

It's inevitable but we will see where we stand in 5 or so years. THe playoff as it has been so far has been a disaster in every way that made college football fun and special but the schools and administrators have all gotten rich from it so I doubt they care.

Just off the top of my head: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2012, and 2018 teams would have all probably made it as at large in addition to 2001, 2003, 2007, 2011, and 2019 making it in as SEC Champion.

Comical nothing but another money grab. Football is not like basketball or baseball where some team can suddenly get hot and roll into the championship. The #4 seed has only won once and usually gets beat down in the playoffs.

Yeah, all that are currently prospering from a 4 team playoff will only propser more and cut their current contracts. I don’t think anyone loses money from this
