Would you feel that way if you were on the team?

Assuming I thought the same way today as a 20 year old as I did many years ago as a kid, then yes...I would not be all that excited about it. Hell...there was literally a thread about little kids playing travel baseball getting rings for winning tourneys on the OT the other day. There's almost no difference.

Don't get me wrong...the ring is very nice. But "rings" in sports have always been for winning titles. Think Bill Russell and Jordan and the talk of how many rings they have. Montana and his three rings. The Steelers quest for "One for the Thumb" back in the early 80's. "Rings" used to mean something specific.

Now, if they have lost that meaning and are simply another type of trophy for having won something, than ok. No issue at all. But it would seem we're due for an upgrade in what players ought to want from winning National Titles if rings are part of winning regular bowl games or Division Co-Champs.

But again...I'm proud of the players for having won the bowl game and the ring looks great. I also get that the university wants to give the players something for doing a great job. I just happen to think that "rings" ought to be reserved for winning titles.

And to save you guys the trouble of searching for one...

Not every bowl does this. I've seen others but can't remember a sugar bowl ring.

I don't want to be negative but after seeing the Orange bowl rings, shouldn't the rings be only for National Titles and maybe conference titles? With every bowl creating a ring, they look the same as a title ring. Just does not seem as special anymore. Does anyone agree? Or should all the bowls give out giant title rings?

Everyone gets a participation trophy these days

Good stuff, question, I am 99% sure there is a limit as to how much a team can pay/give to players for ring, so I think these had to be made for a certain max price, anyone know what that is..I want to say it is about $1,000?

GeauxTigerTM, I generally respect your opinion. You're level headed and thoughtful. However, you might not be completely informed on Outback Bowl rings.

First, this is not a new thing. The Outback Bowl has had these rings for over a decade:

2002

2003

2004

2005

Obviously, I didn't collect pics for all of the rings since 2005, but they exist.

Second, the LSU ring is similar to the previous rings. It's not out of line or extravagant.

Third, the players bust their arse for twelve months lifting and practicing and trying to do all of the little things to be successful.

They earned this little token that shows they are Outback Bowl champions.

Nobody who has not put in the work and long hours should begrudge them this little item.

Well said.

It's amusing to me how some whose biggest effort to support LSU football is to go the stadium or sit in their home watching a game for 3 hrs seem to get off knocking in some way LSU players who work their arse off to be successful enough to win 10 games while playing in the most powerful conference in college football, go to a bowl, and get a ring.

Congrats to the players on winning the bowl and getting a ring for their efforts.
