I have a feeling it could be Phoenix.

Flights there are an arm and a leg right now.

Isn't that in the contract as the choices?

Flights to Nashville are at minimum double the price what they are to MSY or PHX from DFW. Not a deciding factor, however I would bet the game isn't in Nashville. We will see

I heard Phoenix back on Saturday.
I was also told that if Phoenix, that the team would leave early (like Tuesday or Wednesday) to get acclimated to weather.

I don't see Phoenix being an option. It would be difficult to get our equipment trailers out there

In Nashville, Scott Ramsey says his staff is still evaluating whether they could host a game, checking availability of police, hotels and other personnel. He plans to report back to the SEC and ESPN later Monday. He did not know their timeline. “We’ve got sort of a checklist,” he said. “We’re working through that today.” Orlando, meanwhile, is prepared to host with no game scheduled for the weekend.

There might be 4,000 people if they move it to Jacksonville. Phoenix as well. If it isn't in LA it should be in Provo.

If New Orleans is deemed to be too risky because of Harvey’s effects, Orlando might make the most sense for ESPN. While the network’s home base is in Connecticut, ESPN has roots in Orlando, the home of Walt Disney Company, ESPN’s parent organization. It is one of the more accessible cities for the network’s equipment and crews.

Whether ESPN will change the kickoff time is unclear. Kickoff in Houston was scheduled for 8:30 CT. Orlando, Nashville and Jacksonville are all on Eastern Time.
someone tell delly nashville is central

Jacksonville is expected to also be in the mix, though stadium officials there have not returned messages.

It seems pretty clear it will be in Nola unless the storm shifts further east. Orlando and Nashville sound like back up options if that happens, though a shift east would also put the storm in Nashville at the weekend

Really, only 4K BYU fans will make the much shorter trip to PHX and the thousands of BYU fans in PHX will not go?
More like 40k. Not 4K.

They'll make the decision sooner than that. That's why I don't think it'll be in New Orleans. They aren't going to gamble on that.

Should have a much better idea on the projected path by end of day today

Arizona is hugely mormon.
If by "hugely" you mean about 6%, then I guess so. Of course, it is much closer to Utah than to Louisiana, so it would be a lot easier for BYU fans to get there than for LSU fans. But it makes sense on a lot of other dimensions. Weather will not be an issue, either for the game itself (stadium is indoor) or for travel. Arizona is in the Pacific time zone, so they could kick off at 6:30 pm local and keep their currently scheduled time slot (which essentially eliminates any chance of playing into Sunday, a nice plus for BYU).
I still think the Superdome is the best option for this (I think the odds of New Orleans being an unplayable site next weekend are truly minimal), but if they're just too gun-shy to make that call, Phoenix is as good a backup option as any.

Forget any more neutral site games in Houston.
Scratch it off the list.
This game would be played in Tiger Stadium Sat night.
