In 2009 he didn't even have Oregon crack the top 40 and predicted they'd tie for 6th in the Pac-10 in his super-duper scientific (so he claims) preseason ranking system and we finished 11th in the final polls and won the Pac-10....

When did anyone say his rankings were 100% guarenteed? There are lots of factors why a team may do much better than expected. He was wrong about Oregon in 09, big deal, his rankings are usually more accurate than most.

this is what is known as an opinion. Look at these stats and tell me who was the better QB "hands down".

405 617 4718 65.6 7.65 86 38 12 19 146.3

263 372 3338 70.7 8.97 81 32 8 6 170.2

and this is what's known as the statistic bias. I watched both play last year and, from what I saw, Luck made a greater impact on the game.

BUT, I will go with the second set of stats. Somebody's running a more balanced attack.

Look at that. A greater comp % and rating. Who would have thought?!

who exactly from the Offensive side deserves the hype?

I'd be more insulted at his all-SEC list. This list is fine, because our team is young. LSU will have 4-5 people on the 1st/2nd team next season.

I agree we really don't have any standouts. The good news is this isn't basketball it's a team game. Our defensive unit is goin to be very fast and good!

I'm happy we get no respect. Saban has replaced Pete Carroll as the darling of college football. Bama's preseason #1 of last year fell flat. Now they lose all their key offensive weapons and have no QB and they are #2 preseason. Love beating Bama!

and its unheard of for an AA selection to be based on that right?

great, that's still YOUR OPINION. I don't disagree and I'd even bet Phil Steele might agree. The point is he is projecting that Jones will be the first team AA. I know he was high on OU last year and I'm guess he has them at least in the BCS CG this year. A QB with great stats on one of top 2 teams often = Heisman and first team AA. Not that complicated or contraversial frankly.

That's perfectly rational, there is, however, no way on gods green earth that you can say stat line #2 is "hands down" the better stat line, sorry.

great, since when are AA selections based on who's team is running the more balanced attack?

Every comment you've made is a great case for who protects better at the next level, not who will be named first team AA QB for 2011.

I'd usually think someone with 245 fewer attempts would have a higher comp %. Just as I'd guess someone with 372 AB in baseball would have a higher BA than someone with 617.

As for the rating, I have no clue how that's calculated

ETA: the stat that really stands out in Luck's favor is the TD's. 32 TDs in 372 att > 38 in 617.

well you could argue they are just as good if not better at RB and they do have somehting like 9 starters back on D. Its not like they won in 2009 because of Greg McElroy. Losing Jones hurts some, but no big deal.

What I'm trying to say is they hyped Bama up last year to #1 and now those players are gone and they still hype them up to #2 for 2011.

They held Auburn to 254 yards rushing fwiw.

Many great things can happen when Auburn a.) suffers a severe injury to Cam Newton's ribcage within the first quarter of play and b.) stops running an aggressive no huddle at half to milk the clock... how many rushing yards did they hold auburn to on the last drive, you know... the one where Auburn decided to 'turn it back on' for the win?

Whatever makes you feel better i guess.

My favorite fact is out of the 5 Auburn players to rush the ball against LSU, the one with the lowest YPC was Dyer at 6.7.

Solid run defense. Chavis
