I used to like PFF a lot, but recently have been noticing their grading system has some serious flaws. I seriously question the validity of how they grade individual players and even if they can accurately track every single individual player like they claim and produce a "Grade" on how well they played.

Fournette had 309 yards of offense on 19 touches (16.3 yards per TOUCH) with 3 TDs and he received a 74.5 grade which wasn't even Top 5 among all our offensive players. I'm sorry, but your grading system is a pile of shite if a guy can put up numbers like that, break some tackles, and still not even get a very good grade. Of course his line and FB opened up some holes, but he had the speed, elusiveness and break tackle ability to turn what might have only been only 20-30 yard gains into very long TD runs. Then added on a nice 22 yard catch where he nearly broke someone.

Yet, most NFL front offices have contracts with them and utilize their data to a degree.

The offensive line, as a whole, had a better game then Fournette, IMO. He was hardly touched until the 2nd level on his TD runs. The fullbacks were also savage all night long. The running lanes were HUGE.

It probably has something to do with this

194 of his yardage came before contact

I'm not taking anything from LF7 but our OLINE deserves a TON of credit

I think they explain it pretty well actually.

They also grade every individual play, so his home run ability won't stand out as much on the grades. It's not a perfect system by any means, but if you understand their process you can find value in it.

Their NFL work is still world's better than college, which makes sense.

These grades are obviously garbage when Greg Little was graded better than 3 of our O-lineman. He gave up 2 sacks in his first series.

lol they have 7 ole miss players rated above him. They have him graded out of the top 10 players on that field.

You realize how damn absurd that is? It's a joke.

No doubt the O-line played really well but Guice was running behind the same line.

Fournette has excellent timing and vision.

I think it's dumb that they ding him for getting most of his yards on a handful of big plays. When you approach 300 yards, that's going to have to be true unless you are rushing it 40 times in the game.

The fact is, it's highly unlikely that any other RB would have gotten as many yards on as many carries as LF7, all things exactly the same.

And Chad Kelly's score being so much higher than Etling's doesn't make sense for this game either. They had very similar stats, and Kelly also got the benefit of busted coverage for a lot of his yards. Etling had a better QBR and passer rating.

This is kind of the major issue I have. Their NFL system is built out very well and you can see comparisons among everyone which they simply do not give for college.

Again, I question how they track every individual college player accurately. I dont think they can, at all. Their site is obviously built to track the NFL, and they throw some random stats out there for college, with hardly ever any comparisons.

Again though, a guy who has 309 yards on 19 touches with 3 TD who DID absolutely make some guys miss and break some tackles, deserves a much higher grade in their system than 74.5. You seriously cant sit here and tell me Colin Jeter had a better game than Fournette.

Yep, exactly my point. These grades seemingly cannot be trusted. Little looked lost when he came in. Yet ends up with a grade similar to a guy who finished with 309 yards and 3 TD on 19 touches

Was thinking about that after the game. I think that "luck" probably has some to do with it, because we know Guice has the ability to do what fournette did. And I think theres a good chance Guice makes one of those 3 big runs as well if he has the ball.... but I think the intangibles like vision and timing are huge as well

I agree. They need to reprise this agin' the gumps. If so, look for a nice LSU win. It is all about the Oline. I think the Defense will me more than up to the task.

I've always loved their other stats that most sites don't account for.

Unfortunately, they sold out :(

I respect PFF and everything they said made sense. However, I know what I saw. Fournette just is a step or two better than Ole Miss.

It also becomes really easy to break one when the secondary wants nothing to do with you.

Also, how did 2 of their OL score so highly when they couldn't run the football? Is it that biased ot pass pro, even for guards?

Judd - 13 carries for 39 yards, 3.0 ypc
Brazely - 4 carries for 8 yards, 2.0 ypc
Pennamon - 6 carries for 8 yards, 1.3 ypc

That's 23 carries for 55 yards, 2.4 ypc...and the had 2 interior OL grade out very highly
