This article is from 2015, but it's a good one as is the short video of the record breaking basket and the reaction that ensued thereafter.

Were any of you at that game?

Yes, I was a freshman that year and was able to get there early and get a seat up in the upper deck.
The place was packed then and at every home game.

With Pistol Pete it was always showtime.

ETA his scoring line that night:
53 points (21-46, 9-11), 5 rebounds, and 12 assists.

A Kentucky fan.

Adolph Rupp always beat us, but he couldn't stop Pete no matter who he put on him. I remember Pete going up against the great Dan Issel and Pete took him to school.

Back in the day you saw all the greats; no one left to go pro early.

Maravich, Issel, Barkley, Wilkins, Bernie and Ernie, etc.

How exciting for you guys to have been there at that game or any of them at that time! Must have been something else!!!

I couldn't care any less about anonymous downvotes or upvotes. They're meaningless other than for clicks for the board.

I was there.

REALLY!!!

Not like the 250,000 that claim to have been in Tiger Stadium for Billy Cannon's Halloween run.

Sort of confusing that stat line considering no 3-pointers back then.

21 FG's made = 42 points
9-11 Free Throws = 9 points

Totaling 51 points

Still the GOAT

Actually, Barkley and King left after their Junior years and Wilkins left after his sophomore year.

Should have been there - coming home from my USMC career that night - fried had tickets & flight was delayed - ugh

I really do not believe an athlete's passing has ever touched me so deeply as Pete's way to early departure. Let us all be so lucky to be doing what we enjoy most at that moment.

RIP Pistol

Thanks for the Link it brought back old college memories watching him play but his greatest accomplishments was when he became a reborn Christian and the way he cared for his father before he passed.

Never missed a home game. What a priviledge to watch greatness.

I've posted this before..... I sat next to him both times he went to accounting class.

Had a few beers with him at Southdowns.

RIP Pete
