and here's why:

A good Dline can make average LBs look better than they are. In 2011 when we had arguably the best defense in LSU history, our LBs were average at best. The only one that played slightly above average was Baker.

Next year, with our returning players and this amazing Dline haul Coach O is bringing in, our Dline should be outstanding. We will also have a very talented secondary to cover our back end.

IMHO, the defense will be fine with Duke Reily and the incoming freshman playing LB. Just pumping a little sunshine.

We also have some huge LB prospects in play on top of the guys we've already signed.

Our previous starting MLB was the scarecrow DJ Welter. Yes, people are going to be concerned about what happens at MLB in the future.

which part is false? our starters in 2011 were baker, francois, and minter rotated with some scrub i cant even remember. i dont think i ever saw francois actually make a tackle and minter wasnt his 2012 self yet. the only decent LB we had was baker. fact.

If Beckwith leaves we don't have an SEC-ready LB on the roster.

we will not have a Baker next year. fact

unless Riley makes huge strides in the offseason and one of the freshmen is truly elite right away, we will hurt...bad

Linebackers are essential to a defense, and we have TWO that we can count on this year. Those two played every minute of five games this year. We'll get some good ones in this class and they'll probably start immediately. The DL will help out, but they can't do any of a linebackers job.

This! Miles best pull out all the stops he can to keep Beckwith here! Name me the last LBer that stepped in and played as a true freshman that made an impact because I am totally blank right now.

So basically you are counting on true freshmen to be the difference? Good luck with that buddy.

you obviously dont process information very well. the premise of the post is that a dominant Dline can cover up for average LBs.

You are correct in saying we dont have another Beckwith on the team. no one is arguing that.

What I'm saying is that Duke Reily, Michael Divinity, Donnie Alexander, Ronnie Feist, and any other LB prospects Steele and O bring in will be good enough for us to still have a good defense.

Games are won and lost in the trenches. (ala TTown last weekend). with the Dline being put together next year, we will win in the trenches.

again, go look at 2011. we had some pretty bad LBs that year. We were still a very dominant defense.

No More than likely he won't even be on the team next year. For God sake we moved him to FB temporally. He has to be one of the biggest disappoints to me. I thought he would be an absolute monster.

yeah. I get that.. but if we don't let anyone past the DL it won't matter.
If bama can do it........

At least it's something to cling to.
In the spirit of the original post, let's just pray that we don't need to ask much out of the linebackers.

First off, frick you for being a smartass bruh. Second, we won't even have average SEC LBs if Beckwith leaves.

I know.

This would be our weakest LB group in a long time.

No shite but also look at how much Ragland, Foster and Lee were around the ball.

We had one of the best tackling MLBs that we've seen at LSU in over a decade.

This doesn't look too bad on paper at all.
Definitely not as stout as Hawkins, Clapp, Pocic, Teuhema, and Alexander.. but not a huge drop off.
Really pretty critical (in my opinion) that Pocic comes back.
