PM knows more baseball than JJ knows basketball, but I am not sure he is a better coach.

LSU baseball is now officially unranked. How long has it been. Anyone know?

We have been a premier program for a long time which means LSU commands an advantage in recruiting like Bama does in football and Kentucky does in basketball.

There is no excuse for the fact that our pitching and hitting depth is so short. The only reasons are poor talent evaluation or coaching once they arrive.

I know the injuries are plaguing us, however I don't think getting healthy is going to make the difference.

Mainieri has a difficult job ahead. He has to reverse the slide and improve recruiting and coaching.

Honestly, I hope he can, but I have my doubts!

Convince me I am full of crap.

CPM has multiple CWS appearances, SEC Championships, a national title, and was in the national title game last year moron

This has to be a troll

Talent, not coaching IMHO. And we lacked pitching depth to compete with Florida.

Your question tells me LSU has damn strong program that spans many years if you can't remember the last time we were unranked.

Arkansas went to Omaha in 2015 and the next season in 2016 they didn't even qualify to play in the SEC tournament. They had the worst record in the SEC @ 7-23.

TCU has been to Omaha the last 4 straight years and this season they are unranked.

Any team can have a down year.

So, no Paul Mainieri is not equal to Johnny Jones, Mr. Catastrophe Syndrome.

No one should be compared to Johnny jones.

It is a difficult baseball season at LSU. It will get better. All college baseball programs have down years. I am frustrated too but you can't belittle a coach who finished number 2 in the nation last year.

Bertman did not win 50 + games Every season for 18 years. Shite happens. Hopefully, the growing pains this season will yield abundant dividends during the next 2-3 years.

After we lost to injury one of our 3 weekend starters during the CWS.

What is wrong with you?

2011, I think we rebounded just fine after

Or losing 4 starters, the entire pitching rotation and several injuries in the season. When you're limited to a roster of 35, then losing that many players is very significant. We do have a lot of depth, it is just very young, and a team full of young players will go through growing pains

you don't think a healthy Eric Walker, a healthy Josh Smith, and not losing other starters for long stretches during the season would have made a difference?

We will be very good again next year

I may be wrong, but I am not a moron. Mainieri makes coaching blunders a lot, like replacing an effective pitcher with one who can't hit the strike zone; like playing multiple first basemen when we need consistency; like stealing runners like the Jordan twins who are slow on the pads; like calling bunts when the batter doesn't have the skill.

Talent has carried him to success. The talent level seems to be on the decline. The series against a SC this past weekend (a team winning less than 50% of their SEC games) was worse than embarrassing! Mainieri gave away game 3.

I can see a PM/LM comparison perhaps, but JJ really...no way in hell. I'm not advocating PM being fired by any means and especially with the current AD.

Russian,

Question.

Why did you even make a serious retort to that bozo?

The fact that we even have to qualify that statement is ludicrous.

Yes, Paul can get on my nerves. He just made the NC series. I think everyone needs to calm down.

Realize that we were one Eric Walker away from putting another notch on the Intimidator last year.

Now, having said that. Get the prima donnas off the field and put the fricking youth on it. Because at this point this year...I am tired of lackadaisical effort and not hustling, along with piss poor fricking at bats. Whoever doesn't want to play, put a young guy in there.

You actually thought this and then went and typed it out.

Johnny Jones had a team with a front court consisting of three NBA players at one time and could only make the NIT.

The next year he could only manage a first round choke job with two NBA forwards.

He had a guy who will likely end up being the NBA rookie of the year and another McDonalds All-American and couldn't even make the tournament.

You can criticize Manieri, but Jones is on a whole other level of suck that I don't think you fully appreciate.

No doubt

Every coach has its flaws, and PM is far from perfect, but its asinine to put a national title winning coach and a coach who is among the winningest coaches in all of college baseball on the level of Johnny Jones, a proven failure

every coach does. Baseball is inherently a sport of failure.
quote:

like stealing runners like the Jordan twins who are slow on the pads

the Jordan twins are 5/6 stealing bases this season
quote:

like calling bunts when the batter doesn't have the skill.

care to elaborate?

what position did he play?

You can’t give him no credit when things go well and all the blame when things go wrong. That’s not how this works.
