I watched the show for a bit yesterday, and Finebaum claimed ,"LSU got the short end of the stick", by replacing Chavis with Steele and Orgeron. I'm not sure that I agree with this ,at least yet. I will say, Chavis had some monster defenses, especially 2011. However, I can also say that same D was out coached in the National Championship by BAMA. Any thoughts?

Steele is a huge step down from Chavis, but Steele + O is a slightly smaller step down from Chavis + Brick.

Finebaum is a blowhard who only says what he does to rile people up, doesn't mean he's not, occasionally, telling the truth.

Chavis vs Steele in x and o maybe; Chavis vs Steele in recruiting it's a big win

Coach O is a HUGE hire for LSU and Finebaum knows it

We needed a shot of energy and excitement and we got it; a few days ago FB was crowing about LSU being down in recruiting; blah blah blah

Everyone's entitled to an opinion. Barring something unforeseen, Steele and Orgeron should upgrade the talent on the defense through recruiting, and the LSU D-line will likely be more aggressive due to Orgeron. The position coaches are all top notch (Raymond, DB; Steele, LB; Orgeron, DL), so the lingering question that will only be answered by time is, "can the LSU defensive staff properly gameplan and can they make the adjustments to the scheme in-game that are needed?"

FWIW, I wouldn't say the defense was outcoached in that game. They were on the field >35 minutes and only gave up 1 TD (in the 4th quarter).

At first glance, I would say Finebaum's right. But then again, Steele is kind of an unproven entity - we're not sure how good (or bad) he'll be as a DC. We know what O brings to the table - he's certainly a valuable asset. But Chavis's proven track record is very hard to replace.

The players we had were a big factor in the success of those defenses. Chavis is good but he lost us some games with his 3rd and Chavis playcalling. It was time for a change.

Can we make Finebaum posts a ban-worthy offense?

Since he has no substance, posts about him have no substance. Everything about him is offensive.

This. He provides no content, he just takes calls from retards. Finebaum is lazy and talentless. He's not even that skilled as a troll. At least Cowherd puts some thought into his trolling.

That's an easy argument right now. No one can say otherwise until it's proven on the field.

It would probably be better for him to troll Bama/Auburn fans considering they are 90% of his listeners. If I'm Paul, I would be talking about how LSU stole one of Bama's top recruiters. That would set the phones on fire.

I've been adamant that Chavis' success was based largely on having top talent because his scheme is very basic. However, he's proven that his scheme works, particularly against spread offenses. Steele, not so much.

It may have been time for a change, but Steele is still a pretty big step down from Chavis. Hopefully he proves me wrong, but his previous stops don't give me a lot of optimism.

i had friends that worked in the program in 2011 and they all told me that the offense had a great gameplan to attack Bama on the edges and use their size against them. the problem was that as soon as the game started, the offense got punched in the mouth and Les panicked. he told stud to forget the gameplan and keep it conservative.
