Condolences to the Dietzel family for their loss. It is sad that LSU has lost another great Tiger but he will always be remembered and revered at LSU for his contributions to and for the school.

God Bless and RIP

Only? Dietzel and Saban both did this

Dietzel actually left for the opportunity to coach at his alma mater, USMA. Some people criticized him for this but I thought it was noteworthy. His hand-picked successor was Charlie Mac, his defensive co-ordinator. Turned out to be a solid move on his part. Pepsodent Paul will be fondly remembered at LSU and rightfully so.

RIP

He wasn't a West Point grad. He was just an assistant coach there. He also should have seen the writing on the wall that their days as a football power had passed and stayed to build a true legacy at LSU, but I suppose that's probably a discussion for another day.

500 of us have a nice piece of artwork that he signed with Billy Cannon in 2009.

Heard on the radio that we got screwed against Tennessee in 1959 and that replay would overturn it today. By Bama's standards we were 1959 national champions and back to back.

Thanks for the clarification. Old memories tend to get scattered sometimes.

I had the pleasure of meeting Coach Dietzel about a year ago. Truly a good person, extremely kind and of course loves LSU with all his heart. He put LSU on the map and won our first national championship. He will be missed. Rest in Peace Coach.
