Watching these old highlights makes me realize how little I have enjoyed LSU football the past couple of years compared to 5-10 years ago

I have never seen a defender disrupt a game like Mathieu

Good lord Mathieu. From his first game as a true freshman. Most electric player I have seen in my life. So lucky to get to cheer for a player like that.

He didn't score on it; but I would like to see his 2nd punt return against uga. I think that was his best return. He had a shoelace tackle to beat for a td. If he did, he may have had a better shot at the heisman. He should have won the Heisman.

A junior year sure would have been special

You'll say the same thing in 5 years when you see Fournettes highlights. Just remember how bad our offense was in 2009

Peterson was a great player. He was a man among boys out there sometimes.

Mathieu was something different though. There was something special about the things he did and how he affected teams. Some of those interceptions and takeaways are just so wtf, and then how they affected the rest of the team.

I expect to one day see another Peterson. maybe many years from now, but we'll see it. I don't know if we will ever see another Mathieu again.

A season like Mathieu's soph season won't come along again for a while. A true pleasure to watch

Haha seems everyone is wondering the same thing. I was going strictly off statistics but I should have added at the end or something in hindsight.

Love watching that dude. Is there anything better than a little guy playing like he's the biggest guy on the field?

Agreed. I have never seen a player like Mathieu. But Peterson was more valuable. Peterson could erase an AJ Green or a Julio Jones. He also was a turnover, and a touchdown, machine. Patrick Peterson, imo, is the greatest LSU player of my lifetime (1962).

We can argue about that all day, but one thing we will probably all agree on: Mathieu was, hands down, the most entertaining player of all time.
