How many of you think he starts this year? I think he'll end up starting towards the end of the season, but at first it will be eugene and hawkins at corners. Man, i cannot wait to see this guy play, he is a spectacular athlete. I think this is one guy that when someone says no.7, they all remember pat johnson. Cant wait to see him match up with Julio Jones as well!

Yeah, PJ will become a great player. But I am hearing that Chris Hawkins and Ron Brooks will start the year at corner. Jai might start just because he is older.

He'll take over for Eugene if Eugene continues to play like he did last year.

It doesn't matter if Eugene would step in and start all season and be selected to the second team ALL-SEC as a CB...People on this site would still point out the few times he got beat.

He is going to take shite ALL year for every little thing no matter how great or horrible he plays.

Don't understand the hate on Jai. Yes, he wasn't prepared to play in the UK game, but let's not close the book on him because of that.

Johnson will be a terror on punt returns and could be the best we've ever had before it's said and done. I think Phelon Jones will a super cb for us this year. Don't know if he starts or not, but will be a great one. geaux tigah's!!!!!!!!

Call me a negatiger, or the people on this site who don't think every LSU player is the best player on earth. But at what point last year did Eugene impress you? Everytime he got on the field he looked lost and didn't know what was going on.

Who cares? If the corner play is great, he won't see much time. If the corner play sucks, he'll be in there. I'd rather the corner play is great because we meet AU early on. If we want to beat them we better be going full throttle. I'd rather not have a true freshman gaurding a spread offense. Wouldnt you?

brah, he was a fricking redshirt freshman. Cornerbacks have been known to improve from their first fricking years.

he'll start sometime before the UGA game. Mallory and Paveto need to be quick to move him to the starting role if Jai and Hawkins struggle.

It'll be Brooks and Johnson. The only question is how long does it take for the player favorites and politics to sort this out.

fwiw, I've heard Jai's been shutting down Byrd in independent workouts the last few times they've gone out.

Since no coaches are around though it doesn't really matter, but if its true it sounds promising.

I think he will be like chad jones was last year. He will get on teh field just because of his tremendous athletic ability, but I dont think he will start.

Which means he had a whole fricking year to learn what his assignment is supposed to be and not panic in coverage before he even got on the field. He wasn't impressive at all last year, physically or mentally. It's like he must have never showed up to practice his entire freshman year to learn anything.

I hope he improves, but blindly wishing so doesn't mean it will happen.

who was the last redshirt freshman CB to come in and play like he knew what he was doing? Most redshirt freshmen corners never see the field.

Not really, but since almost no redshirt freshmen corners are, that's not a very good predictor of future unsuccess.

I'm not saying he will improve. He might wind up sucking his whole career. But he's certainly not destined to that based on a handful of plays where he was thrown into the fire as a redshirt freshman. And remember, he was a QB in high school. He has not played just a whole lot of corner in games.
