This issue is extremely frustrating because nearly 100% of all LSU fans I know do not like Toonces. It is an embarrassing logo & is even joked about by fans from other schools. I have had a few lengthy conversations on FB with the LSU page administrator, who says it is more popular that I think, & it is easier to replicate for use on TV for scoreboards during games (may be some truth here). I am told that from time to time the school will alter & change its logo so just be patient. In the spirit of full disclosure, I just wish someone close to this issue within LSU would step forward & explain to the fans the basic terms of the Toonces contract (How much did the deal cost? Who specifically within LSU decided on Toonces? How much longer is LSU bound to Toonces contractually?, etc.) I believe most fans have become so frustrated with the Toonces logo that they have simply given up fighting it, but such apathy should not be confused with the acceptance of Toonces by the LSU administration.

Also, the name you guys have given it is terrible. Maybe the frilly fricking name adds to the perceived gayness of the logo.

The name Toonces is fitting. Just watch SNL. Don't blame fans for naming the logo but blame the individuals who developed & implemented the logo.

I don't care if we keep the Toonces logo for T shirts and whatnot...but I absolutely HATE turning on ESPN and seeing that stupid thing next to our name.

That's what I want changed the most.

This. If i could go back in time, I would not want the toonces logo, but I think it's far worse to change logos every couple of years or have non current logos abound. It takes probably 10 years for a logo to totally disappear (ie LSU with script TIGERS below). Toonces is barely on any uniforms (except basketball I believe) and there are numerous other options.

(interlocking letters, Geaux font, eye, old tiger, popeye tiger)

One legit comment I remember reading at one point is that the old tiger logo is hard/not cost effective to mass reproduce. I'm sure that's the reasoning behind it. I agree about it not being our logo on tv or on uniforms, if it's kept on merchandise, whatever, you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube unless it's totally outrageous, which I don't think it is.

I've disliked this logo since it was first unveiled. Even before it was tagged (and fittingly so) as Toonces. It aggravates me that LSU paid money for someone to come up with the current logo, and even worse that it was approved. I understand that, maybe, it has some sort of benefit, but I'm sure we could have done better. Someone should put up a poll on which you can vote on whether you like it or not.

Toonces Sucks! Go Tigers!

I'm not a big fan, but I don't get the uproar either. It's no where to be found on the field or unis so that's good. The biggest positive of the logo is that it's kid friendly.

Hiring a firm to do this crappy logo was stupid in the first place...I'm sure a graphic design major at LSU could come up with something much better.

We spent stupid money on that thing for nothing, when we could have gotten it for free from our own university.

Makes it look like we don't have too much faith in our graphic design department.

You have to realize that there has not ever been this sort of widespread negative sentiment toward a logo at LSU - until Toonces. The Toonces logo is in a class of its own. Previous LSU logos have come & gone; some have stayed, but few fans have had any real disdain for any of them. I base my assertion on the fact that I have been following LSU for a long time & I know many, many Tiger fans & Alumni from all age groups. Toonces is just different than all the other logos because it is so bad. At least the LA DOT is offering LSU license plates now with the Eye of the Tiger, but TX DOT still has Toonces.

The Director of Licensing, spoke once to a class I had a while back and he addressed the issue. I believe if I remember correctly, he said it was no longer actively being used. He had a whole list of the current ones.

There was a thread a few months back about this where someone said it cost something like $40-$50k for the logo. That may have included the geaux font also.

I don't see how it could be considered no longer actively being used. It's on the front page of lsusports.net (bottom left) and on all kinds of new merchandise.

I have an idea: the individual who is responsible for or approved the Toonces logo should be introduced at halftime of a football game. Let's see how the crowd reacts. That will be a pretty good indication of how the fan base feels. Look, everyone makes mistakes, but it is what a person does going forward that matters. I just want LSU to do the right thing, which is to scrap the Toonces logo.
