I don't think most people are talking about not kicking on 4th down. I'm talking about suddenly going conservative and not throwing a pass on the three previous plays. Mett's on fire. A first down seals the deal. All game we played to win. On that last series we played not to lose. Difference.

Let me put it this way. If the LSU head coach sent a messanger over to the Alabama head coach and said you make the choice for me, do I go for it. or not, the ALABAMA coach would choose kick the field goal. He knows if LSU goes for it and gets it the game is over. If they kick a field goal, miss or make, the game is not over.

The specific 4th down call is the FG. You go for the 1st down earlier in the series.

4th and 6. Bama was stuffing the run. You don't think they play back a little and play the pass on 4th down? Yes. They would trust their front 7 to stop the run and react to the pass.

They have given up TD's in previous games employing the prevent so I'm not sure why they employed it against Bama with Bama only needing a FG to tie.

The ONLY time I can see a PREVENT D being utilized is when a team has 1 play and are a good distance away.

This. Apparently they didn't learn their lesson against SC and A&M

On that particular play, I would have taken a delay of game penalty and punted and hoped to pin them down inside the 10....Just my opinion.

In any event LSU has one tough as nails football team. They were VERY impressive in that game even in defeat.

Attempt a field goal. I've seen this kind of philosophy employed over and over and over again. I think it is in error. In fact I am absolutely sure it is in error.

LSU vs Arkansas 2002. We went for the fg and lost. Nick saban was the head coach.

I am impressed that you went to all the trouble to establish yet another alter just to post the same old tripe. I admire your persistence and dedication to Miles bashing. Not many have your stamina.

the FG is a straight up 50/50 judgement call. They should have passed for the first down on 3rd and 10 on the quick routes that had been working all night and had them on their heels. The run was just to set up the FG.

WareCat on 4th down at the 24 was obvious and poor play call. That could have come very close to sealing the game if we get a TD.

Regardless of whether the field goal makes or misses, it is the wrong decision to kick it in my opinion. I'm not 20-20 hindsight because it missed.

I am not bashing the LSU coach. I said almost all (if not all) coaches would do what he did. I bash the general, common philosophy.
Anyone that wants to get rid of the guy is nuts.

You kick the field goal and kick them the ball with out chance of a return. Then you make them drive the length of the field and score a touchdown, every time, never different.

Probably in the minority here but I personally thought we should have taken a delay of game and then punt the ball and try to pin them inside the ten. Make them go 60 + yards to try the game tying field goal or 90 + yards to win. I was not necessarily comfortable with the 45 yard attempt and risk giving it to them on the 28. Wing also proved he was on top of his game that night already.

"You kick the field goal and kick them the ball with out chance of a return"

How do you kick them the ball without a chance of a return? You are certain the kicker will boom it out of the end zome? Other than that you have to kick it out of bounds or squib it, giving them the ball, most probably, in very good field position.

I have to go back to one earlier comment. SABAN was glad they didn't go for it.
