But I'd think we would look around for a young, up and coming offensive mind before keeping him on staff. Really the same goes for Ensminger as with O.

Who started this nonsense? Why does it have to be a "young, up and comer"? Are coaches with a wealth of experience not able to devise a quality offense? Art Briles isn't young, his offenses were explosive. Chip Kelly isn't young, his offenses were record breaking.

Ed O isn't a young, up and comer.

So you'd be cool with hiring him after going 4-3 as an interim coach?

Comparing "failing" of BB and Pete Carroll going 7-9 or 8-8 mixed in with playoff seasons to O having historically bad seasons at Ole Miss when the coaches before him and after him saw 8 and 9 win seasons is just disingenuous

Yeah... it's quite a stretch. But the general point he's trying to make, and to which I agree (to an extent), is that a coach isn't always defined by his early failures.

So he was upset because they wanted to hire a coach that fit the "culture" of the program Meanwhile he's campaigning for a job by hitting home the fact that he's "a part of the culture" Things that make you go HMMMM

I'm really impressed at how nobody in this thread addressed this.

That's an extremely large blanket statement to hold onto when you are making a hire at a top flight job in the country

See this is the issue. Like I said Coach O relies heavily on coordinators on both sides of the ball. If you want to hire some young up and coming coach, that means they aren't going to be here long AT ALL. Do you honestly expect for Orgeron to constantly be getting the next up and comer every 2 or 3 years. It doesn't work like that. Great young coordinators don't grow on trees.

I never said it had to be, but that we'd probably look for one and it isn't a bad idea. Younger guys are motivated to impress and make a name for themselves and use it as a stepping stone to a more lucrative or prestigious position.

Yes. Obviously.

I know.

I know. He also isn't an offensive coach.

Agreed. That's why O isn't my first choice.

I don't think he is being a hypocrite for wanting the job. The conversation was about how he did well enough to get the USC job but didn't and someone else got it. That's not what is happening here.

I honestly feel like they'd be okay with winning 7-9 games at best every year because they want a Cajun baw as head coach. Hopefully Alleva and Boosters aren't as retarded and think with their brain and not their heart.
