You don't understand context do you? The comment is a fair assessment of how both coaches are viewed. The article doesn't denigrate Miles at all.
Yeah the article totally didn't try to make him look like a complete clown...

It seems more like he is talking about their reputations, and admits that probably isn't' the truth.

All you need to know about the divergent reputations of Chip Kelly and Les Miles is captured in two new promotional ads for ESPN’s College GameDay. In about two seconds, Kelly decodes one of those complicated posters the Ducks use to signal plays. Miles eats grass. That’s the matchup Saturday, when Oregon meets LSU: The football savant vs. the Mad Hatter. Unfair, yes. Miles is the 10-year veteran with the national championship. In only two years, Kelly has already gotten close, but he’s still looking for a landmark nonconference win. But caricatures cling. Chip is a calculating genius wearing a visor that inspires fan mimicry. Les is a lucky doofus wearing a too-tight hat that invites ridicule. Truth lies between.
Awesome critical reading skills.

I think most sports reporters know more about pop culture than they do actual sports.

He really does sort of act like a doofus.

Both made it to a national championship game. One won, the other lost.
Love it.
Haters gotta hate!!

Exactly. The writer states that Les is quirky and goofy, but that he just wins. Nothing new there.

Schroeder probably gets paid by the amount of hate mail he gets. Don't worry we don't like him either.

How can you not love the guy? Especially since all he does is win, a bunch. But never mind the national championship or 62 wins in six seasons, LSU fans can’t quite wrap their arms around Miles. Or maybe it’s their minds.
Oregon fans are certain the Ducks are better-coached, every week. That Kelly is thinking circles around his counterparts.
LSU fans don’t know what Miles is thinking. They want you to “Fear the Hat” — but they do, too. If you’re Kelly, studying LSU is difficult. How do you coach against crazy?
Miles can coach, but there’s no good explanation for the recurring bouts of goofy. Or why they usually work out in LSU’s favor.
I mean, it's slightly degrading, but most of our fans would agree with everything said here.

This reporter has obviously visited this site and is referring to rantards.

In other words, Kelly isn't a calculating genius and Les isn't a lucky doofus. They are caricatures. The truth lies in between.
And the truth is, none of this talk matters. What matter is what LSU does on the field tomorrow night.

Let's see how many geniuses Les has taken down:
Saban, Tressel, Myers, Spurrier, Stoops, Beamer, etc... They were all better than Les, but when the clock hit zero who had the win!!!

It really wasn't that bad of an article. He actually paid Miles some comments. Although he did fit in some jabs at him. Miles needs to get LSU to the point where LSU doesn't have to squeak out victories. We need to start dominating teams.

Oh Gad remember, "Fear the Vest".
It made winning that much sweeter.

we all should agree that miles needs to loosen up those dam hats though, they sit on top of his head
nah, leave Miles' hats alone. They're part of his quirky charm. He can wear his hats any way he likes and clap his hands any way he pleases, as long as we leave with the W.
