I think youre right, and the story long term becomes, should the rules be as they are?
frick college football makes millions and millions for colleges. They're going to invest in it, even if that investment is morally questionable, and you can't blame them.

Well, LSU has a history of bending recruiting rules. See Daddy Dale. I'm sure LSU has paid this guy for recruiting services, and I'm sure it's 100 percent legal.

in light of the fact that newton wanted $180,000 doesn't $25,000 look low. esp. if you have to share it with lache

Well, yeah, but I think this is more of a story long-term. As in, is the NCAA enabling pay for play with rules like this?
People will always break rules. Cam's not the first, and may not be the highest paid. But the fact that the NCAA rules probably technically allow payment to these kinds of recruiting services, well that's a whole 'nother story.

Can't we just come to the realization that every major D1 program is guilty, wipe the slate clean and start over.

Wish the press could have as much success with Auburn--there is so much out there, little doubt their recruiting is also dirty. Of course, mainly the NCAA & FBI, more so than the press.

Since it seems absurd for players from the South to come up to Oregon to play football, let me give you a few reasons why they might want to:
Autzen - comparable to playing in an SEC stadium and just as loud
Casanova Center - has our lockerroom, training facilities, brand new health/treatment center with underground treadmills and 60 inch tvs to watch.
Mo Center - indoor training facility
Jacqua Academic Center - brand new "study hall" for athletes
Top Sports Marketing Program in the nation
Someone mentioned the women, yes! just google Oregon Duck Cheerleaders
I think there is also something about our offense that might attract fast, shifty players to it but I can't be sure.
I agree that "street agents" are shady and in a perfect world wouldn't exist, but until real evidence comes out showing any wrong-doing on Oregon's part, this is just a slander piece that was brought up because our state has more transparent laws.

All of those things are just "comparable" to Southern schools, not far superior. Every big time school in the south has all of those things, plus some. Well, except for the number one "sports marketing" department.
ETA: The southern schools have NCs,winning traditions, and home going for them. I've said before, UO just seems dirty. Maybe not.

The problem is that if the NCAA turns a blind eye to players getting paid under the table then we'll end up with an arms race that will make what's going on in the NBA pale in comparison. In about 5 years we'll wind up with about a dozen teams that are the NY Yankees and about 100 Florida Marlins. It would make college football pretty awful IMO.
Now, I am 100% for players being comped beyond room and board. I think the NCAA's rationale for not paying these kids is beyond hypocritical. But there needs to be a systematic way of paying players that is at the same time fair to the players but doesn’t destroy competition and create a small handful of perpetual super teams.

They are. They have their tuition, fees, books, housing and food paid for. Let's not pretend that those are not significant. It adds up to anywhere from $30,000 to $50,000 depending on the cost of the school.

Gonna chime in here. Girls at Oregon are not quite the quality of girls at most SEC schools, but southern girls are a different breed than girls at UO. More high maintenance. and don't look nearly as good when the make up comes off. Superficially though, SEC girls have the edge.
I doubt the quality of female is much of a factor in deciding where to play your college career though.

I don't know if there is such a way...

Those are the powers today but won't be forever. 10 years ago that group included Miami Florida State, Notre Dame etc. Letting money just flow unabated through the system means that the rich will stay rich.

It's not hay, but we all know that if NCAA football were a professional league with a players union these kids would be pulling far more than what works out to $8000-$12000 per season.

According to reports, the same promoter that Oregon paid in the Lache Seastrunk story, which is now breaking, delivered some other big-name recruits to some high-profile programs.
This same promoter delivered Patrick Peterson, R.J. Jackson, Brandon LaFell, Terrance Toliver and Trevon Randle to the LSU program. Reportedly LSU has paid for Will Lyles' services on several occasions.
