OK, so once the other kids continued growing and I topped out at about 150 lbs, I stopped playing football
There were players on my high school team that weighed less then 150. In fact, our starting center was right at 150.

did our guys just quit before it started? If so, what's the implication for the UF game?
Yes, they were going through the motions. I have little doubt they will get up for The Swamp.

For a point of reference - I'm a soldier. When deployed, it's best to stay 'switched on' regardless of whether or not you think your current mission could go south - you bring your 'A' Game regardless, it's hard to turn it on at the drop of the hat. Just curious if it's realistic to think that the team will just all of a sudden start playing to their potential.....
You are correct. You've always got your eyes and ears on regardless if you are expecting something or in line for chow. But we also have garnered respect for our enemy. Something LSU didn't have Saturday night.

I have another perspective.

It seems since (and including) the national championship game in NOLA that the team has not had a defined leader. It seems that all the games we have had so far, we have been not all there. Yes, they played well enough to win - we have amazing talent on our team. It just seems that mentally they are not there. I do think it stems back to the BCS NC game. Don't know or care what happened - that is in the past. But, someone (player) needs to step up and take a leadership role on this team and get us out of the fog our players are in.

One a side note and an intersting thing, Jordan Jefferson was on the sideline in the 2nd half. No one really paid attention to him. Granted, the players should have been paying attention to the game, but while I was there, no one approached JJ.

This Saturday will tell what we are made of this year. We have the talent, we just need to step it up!

It seems that way to everyone. Maybe we are all just looking for some answers because the fans certainly never got any.

Right now Mett has no leadership abilities and it is showing.

or should the coaches strive to keep them tuned at the highest level at all times? I'd argue that the coaches should work to ensure that at all times, one every play, that the players are switched on - and giving 100%.

Saban tries to do this. Probably does it as well as anyone, but still the great Nicky can't keep them all tuned to 100% all the time.

Players looked at Towson as a scrimmage, and it was a sloppy and less than motivated performance.

Teams have to come together and "gel" so that they have each other's backs when they need to dig in deep to win. That's what I think they lack right now, but may need to find against Florida.

I think we need to consider some other points on this (and a few others from this thread):

1) quit tying this to "a Les Miles-coached team" as if it's all his fault. He admits some blame, but he's not actually playing. And the same stuff happens to all college coaches and teams, even the king of all college coaching, Nick Saban. Look at other teams honestly and you'll see, this weekend was not unique to dominant top 5 teams like LSU.
2) Mett is a rookie and it shows. He's not one of these stars that comes in and looks like a senior from day one (no matter how many messianic qualities we put on him)...and,
3) goes to show how tough it is to make decisions about who your starting QB is and why he stuck with JJ last year. These "pre-season" games as Les accidentally called them shed a whole new light for me on why he went with experience, and mobility, in the form of Jordan Jefferson over the backup QB. I'm not making excuses for not giving Lee a series in the NC, but if you actually take a second to try to figure out all of the variables you have to consider when making a call about your QB (personnel, schemes, skills, strengths, weakness, tendencies maturity level, etc), it's not easy because there is a lot to consider. And Mett is proving to me why JJ was always the guy after starting 3 years in a row. He'd started in every hostile environment known, won games, overcame diversity, etc. it would be very difficult for any honest and experienced person to not take all that very seriously when facing teams like Bama. And, finally,
4) yes, 19 year old kids are not mature, they are not soldiers and they definitely succumb to emotional highs and lows, and this week was definitely one. We can fantasize about "always being up, cause you play for a team like LSU" or fantasize that "if they had any pride," they would have stomped the other unranked team into the ground relentlessly. It's not a reality for 9.9 out of 10 teams. The teams that are that "on" no matter who they face are Hall of Fame teams for a reason (of which there are few) - and last I checked these other "poorly played games" did have us win by 40 points (give or take) except for this one. This shite happens and we need to, as a fan base, get more mature on our own evaluation of our team and of our opponents as well. Those who think we should kill every unranked team and beat everyone else because of our "talent, pride, etc." just aren't realistic and don't get why this sport is so great..and why you have to actually play the games.

I think we'll pick it up over all for the rest of the season. Though I am concerned about Mett and our receivers. Wondering if we'll see an experienced player like Bolden or even see RIvers if Mett can't get rolling against much tougher competition...

One thing i've noticed is that it seems as if the team is trying to win the national championship in one play. These guys just need to focus on doing what they're coached to do and the scorboard will take care of itself.

One thing that strikes me really well is when LSU fell behind. How quickly they gained the lead. Even though it seemed like LSU wasn't playing the best game they knew they were in control the whole time...

The fumbles kept this game close and we all need to realize that the ball was wet and the Towson's defense was taking full advantage of that.

LSU never panic and they took it easy. Towson didn't have the speed LSU has, Deep passing route would have killed this team... You guys need to chill out...
