I'm not entirely sure how my fellow sunshine pumpers feel about Steele, but I think he needs to go. I think he was a flop of a hire. I think we hired a proven failure as DC and he did nothing but make us worse

See, this is what I don't understand.

Les wanted him, vouched for him, said he always wanted him, "we got our guy," was obviously super confident about it. How does he get a pass for this "flop of a hire?"

By definition a "Head" Coach is in a supervisory capacity relative to an OC. You cannot have an OC who operates independently of the Head Coach. Otherwise, the "Head" Coach isn't really the "head", is he? This isn't really a difficult concept, yet why do we keep getting posters who seem to think that Miles' putrid offense can be fixed by changing the OC?

That will fix everything. We just need an OC that will say "frick you, boss! I'm running my offense, not yours!"

Obviously discussions will have to happen before a hire. This is why you have to essentially make less give up the offense. Take the stubbornness out of the equation.

Definitely doesn't get a pass for it. I think its mitigated by some of his good hires though. You want to fire him because he made a bad DC hire for one year?

Right now he has a strangle hold around the offense. You have to find someone that is more creative and brings a modern approach, but embraces the philosophy. I think it would help if he is also stubbornly against Les, thats why I like Kiffen

So let me get this straight. You want to keep Miles and pay him his $5m but want the "stupid, sleazy AD" to do 50% of Miles' job for him and pick the OC and force Miles not to interfere.

Makes tons of sense.

The ideal candidate, while very unlikely to happen, has got to be Lane Kiffen.

Miles would never give a guy like Kiffin free reign on the sideline the way Saban does. Les pictures himself as an offensive guru. He would have Kiffin up in the booth, with every play passed by Miles before its relayed to the field.

There are plenty of other reasons, but as far as DC goes--in 2008 the malveto experiment failed and to his credit, he did away with it after one year. At the time, the offense was actually doing okay--Jarrett Lee was a turnover machine, but IMO the play calling was fine and we were moving the ball. Now it appears that BOTH coordinators are doing a poor job, plus the horrendous special teams play-it's a perfect storm of ineptitude. Because it'all coming to a head at a time when our conference record is looking more and more average, yes I think it's a legitimate reason.

Posi tiger here that would like every coach besides O and Frank gone. Maybe Raymond too. M

Posi Tiger is not the same as Posi Miles

This thread has got to be a joke. First off, you do realize there is a limit on the number of coaches you can have. So, you cannot demote Steele and hire a new DC without getting rid of someone else. Miles would have to be over the special teams in that case. Then, what DC worth a damn would want to come here knowing miles has just enough rope to hang himself and he'd be gone in a year just like the guy he replaced. Next, do you really think miles can make the changes on offense that he's failed to make since he's been here? Lastly, you call for all these changes so that we can keep the recruiting class in tact? Wtf

We had 2 options at the end of the season, get a new head coach or make no changes at all. To those who say we could have gotten a new OC I ask, would anything have really changed?

Literally bullet point #1

1) Bradley Dale Peveto MUST be fired.

Correct

If he is good, the team will be good and nobody gets fired. Also, the guys I mentioned would be available for other jobs anyway.

Yes, if he has no choice.

We will have a championship caliber team next year and you want to throw that away so that we can have a championship caliber team in 4 years? Wtf
