No, you're just being a smartass.

Which is part for the course with you.

I'll say one thing about this kid. He looks like a good ballplayer.

Hopefully, he will live up to the hype.

You shouldn't take this so seriously...

Are you being a smartass now? I can't tell.

To expand and be a little more serious. Arm strength, like speed, isn't often improved upon at this stage. He has excellent arm strength who's a better fit defensively on the left side partly for that reason. It's one of that 5 tools he already has and I found it funny that you site that, yet give him a 55. And the opposite can be said for his hitting for average. Again one of the 5 tools. Yet this one he doesn't have. And it doesn't look close. You laugh at his no hits last year, but he hit 0.239 in the Northwoods this summer, with a 0.176 average in his last 7 games alone. So you say this is a current rating, but this is higher than arm strength and fielding?! I was high on Deichmann last year. Even then he was hitting some of the deepest balls out of right center in scrimmages. Thought he would make a push for DH/3B.

You bring up fair points, to expand on this I don't think any fan in general should give up on Deichmann based upon 8 at bats as a freshman coming off a lingering foot injury as well as last summer's league using wooden bats. It just is not enough of a sample size to write him off for "not showing a precise tool". What he has done throughout high school ball, showcases, and circuits has shown what he is capable of against solid competition.

At this exact moment in time do think his hitting is superior to his arm and glove...the only way my point will be proven is after the season begins.

because he's wearing an LSU uniform and LSU only recruits good ball players?

I agree, sometimes talent just wins out after these young kids see live pitching an make adjustments. He wouldnt be the first kid to have a poor showing in summer ball and come into the season and do a 360.

For example, I know Fraley was terrible in the cape 14' coming into last year. Now he wasnt out best hitter last year, but he was far from an easy out. His K% in particular went from 20% in the Cape to just 10% last year for LSU. His OBP jumped from .311 to .372

Even the most talented freshman sometimes need that adjustment period.

His stats for last fall prior to the injury were bad too, Adam. Lowest on the team.

I don't have his number from this this fall though. I guess I could go back and put together what Scuba has done. Although now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure he put those together for us. I'll have to search.

And there you have your justification! You're welcome!!!

I have a year and a half worth of data. And you're trying to use showcases from over 2 years ago to justify yourself.

All that being said, I hope he does well and solidifies himself at 1B. Especially if Adams is struggling as much as we're made to believe. This kid can hit it a mile when he makes contact.

That's a fair point about Fraley. He didn't have a good fall until last year. It was crazy to see him struggle so much then completely turn it around over the winter.

Still think his arm and fielding are higher than 55...

He needs reps. I firmly believe he will get into a groove and solidify the middle of our lineup. Luckily, a weak OOC schedule should allow us to experiment and get a lot of young guys reps, but I think Deichmann is one that needs to see a ton of ABs early.

I'm soooo glad we entered him into a one run SEC game in the late innings, only to have him come up to bat in extra innings with runners on 1st and 2nd, no outs, and decide to NOT BUNT HIM.

I have no issue with Deichmann, but I have issues with that head coaching decision.

He doesn't need to hit 0.350. He can hit 0.280 with 7-10 HRs and be a really good 6-8 hitter. I think the Jordan twins will be tough to keep out of the lineup. Beau can hit almost anywhere and Bryce can find a spot in the middle behind Fraley.

Felt terrible leaving the field after that game. So many extra innings wasted. That wasn't the only mistake.

Probably never bunted in his life, eh Paul? So why was he in the game?

This team needs him to be a middle of the lineup guy though.

This team, offensively, goes as far as Deichmann does. He has the most raw talent on the team, if he stays healthy and progresses like he is expected to, then we have a great 1-2 punch with Fraley and Deichmann in the middle of the order which could actually make this offense very potent.
