Payton is the exact guy that came to mind for me when the thread morphed into "just flip the ball back to the official."

What's funny is this. IMO, nothing makes a bigger "I'm a badass" statement than casually flipping the ball back to the ref. It kinda says "hey hold this for me please, Ima be right back here 10/15 minutes

I loved OBJ at LSU, hoped for his success in the NFL, and was thrilled to see him achieve that success........but man, has he turned out to be an insufferable jerk!

Exactly. Who gives a shite? Bunch of stodgy old guys that want the game played like it used to be...until their team needs a big play.

Are going nowhere, and is exactly why he does them. He's a fun likeable player, and is making millions for his brand.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Just like kaperwhatever and the kneeling. Someone in the NFL has hired the writers from WWE. It's all scripted and sadly we fall for it.

This. It's amazing how offended people get by his over-the-top celebrations. Like he's personally attacking them. It's a bizarre mental state.

Uhhh, he was once fun. Now he is a whiny, crying already tired act. He is cringe-worthy now.

Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Chris Carter, Michael Irving, Steve Smith, Chad Johnson, Andre Rison..all very good wr and flamboyant.

It's one thing to celebrate but when all everyone is talking about is how you celebrate its too much

where are his mom and dad??? Serious question.

If that was my son, he'd get an earful from both me and mom.

who would downvote this?

Do parents stop being parents after the kids turn 21?

Sure, OBJ is an adult and responsible for his own behavior, but parents can continue to help advise their kid throughout their life.

And I guarantee you, if any of my kids do something bad, particularly in public, I'll let them know I disapprove. It's actually my duty to do so. Not to be overbearing, but to step in with advice when warranted.

But I guess the teenagers on this board don't want to hear that, so downvote away.

Sounds like a "you" problem, not an OBJ problem. People just need to get over it. He's a brand and having over the top celebrations promotes that brand.

One of my faults is that I often see things from both sides and have difficulty forming a strong opinion. On one hand, his antics do seem to be a distraction at times and he started off the season slowly.

On the other hand, that play he made to win the game on 4th and 1 was legendary. He plays in New York and is putting up numbers to start a career that have never been duplicated previously. Yet he's still getting hammered locally and nationally.

Some athletes play better with a chip on their shoulder, whether it's genuine or manufactured. I'm not sure if he's that type of guy but whatever he's doing is working.

And Joe Horn. You forgot Joe Horn. Dude hid a cell phone at the base of the goal post for a celebration.

clearly OBJ is promoting a brand. But there's nothing wrong with fans disliking it and commenting on it.

I'm not saying people can't complain about it. Just makes them look like miserable, whiny bitches is all. Far more whiny and bitchy than they purport OBJ to be.

Add Calvin Johnson to your list as a more modern example of greatness playing with humility He never really mugged for the camera, post TD dunks and spikes excepted.

His job is to catch a ball. It's not that serious. God forbid he seeks too much attention or has too much fun playing this GAME
