They were thinking a lot of pitches were strikes because the pitcher hit his spot, but their catcher was set up off the plate all night

this - big Ben was calling this on their 2nd batter in the first inning and it continued all night. Ben knows his shite about pitching and bow hunting.

Sounded like LSU football fans saying SEC refs always favor Alabama! :-)

Fans always think the refs are cheating them. When you win it don't come out as much, when you lose it always comes out.

We are no different.

Ole miss is way worse than state. Pay attention next year when we play at ole miss how often the fans bitch about a strike call over the plate or boo when their guy doesnt get one 8 inches off the plate at the knees

I think it's funny when fans say umps are biased against their team. Yea the couple of guys at the game paid to be as unbiased as possible are the ones that are biased towards a particular team not the fan that only pays attention to what happens to their team.

What do those bums have to bitch about? That game was called well by the officiating crew. If they're bitching about something then who gives a shite? That was a pretty clean game and Lange dominated...theyre probably just shocked at how Lange shut their "potent" lineup down. That hasn't happened to them often. Hell of a performance by Lange.

The runner has to have a path to the plate and the plate was blocked. Also, the elbow that lifted him in the air prevented him from touching the plate. Tough call being he never actually touched the plate

MS catcher was set up off the plate

Not only that but he charged out ahead of our batter one time and got hit by a swinging bat....and as for a calling balls and strikes the ump was not calling corners as evidenced against Lange's many pitchs which were all over the corners

This is true. He had a teacup strike zone. But he stuck to it. I bet if you painted a chart of all the balls and strikes he called, he would have been one of the more consistent umps we've seen all year.

the call was correct. he has the right to catch the ball. and you try tagging someone flying up over the side of you with two hands in your glove without your elbow flying up. Paps blocks the plate all of the time as the ball is arriving. Don't be a blind fan. Freeman was hosed and never should have run home in the first place.

How is that the correct call? The catcher made zero effort to tag the runner, he just stuck his elbow out to block him. I don't claim to be an expert on the rules of baseball, so I'm legitimately asking why this wasn't interference.

This thread is pure gold.... LSU fans bitch and cry more than any other fan base I have ever seen..... LSU never losses a game by being outplayed.... the fans always have an excuse or cry that the refs cheated them.....

He was trying to tag him. In baseball, especially with catchers, you tag with two hands. You don't just stick your glove out there and let the runner knock the ball out of your glove. His elbow is thrown up because he clearly was caught off guard by a player flying over him and he his trying to move both of his arms (together) up and to the side to reach the runner while not letting him get to the plate. You can be in front of the plate when you have the ball. The reason the play looked so odd was bc Freeman was out by a mile at the plate and did everything he could to try to avoid the tag (as he should). There was no foul play by the catcher.

But he didn't even move his glove towards Freeman, he just stuck his elbow out.

His hand is in his glove protecting the ball. His hand comes out of the glove as he turns his body after freeman made contact with his arm. Do you have a clip that shows otherwise that I might not have seen?

ETA: It would also make zero sense to not try to tag someone and just throw an elbow out there instead.

Well! LSU lost several calls at the plate recently that could have gone either way. I didn't see any "favor".
