So I know I’m putting myself out here on the rant, which can be pretty brutal at times, but I want to get some honest feedback.

I was a good baseball player in high school who dreamed of playing for Coach Bertman. Instead, I attended a conference USA school and have been a diehard Tiger fan ever since.

Here’s the question: one of my buddies thinks I’m a lame arse because of my passion for the Tigers when I didn’t attend the school. He also thinks it’s lame that I joined the TAF to support them.

I’ve never been to Baton Rouge, but I’ve been to LSU games at other stadiums and even made it to a bowl game.

Is my buddy right or am I accepted as legit?

EDIT: I appreciate the response, everyone. The question I asked myself before I posted this was "Is it really THAT big of a deal?" Thanks for confirming that it isn't. I'll tell my boy to go kick rocks.

TAF considers you legit.
$$$$$$$

It is way better than being a Bama fan, who has never attended a game and really isn't sure where UofA is located in the State of Alabama.

There are two hard and fast rules(well maybe part 1 and 1b) when cheering for a school you didn't attend.

1. The school was not affordable. I found this to be the case for kids in Ohio. OSU is MUCH harder to get a scholly to than Dayton. Thus many Dayton Engineering alumni are OSU fans. Same could be said for SELU alumni cheering for LSU.

2. Athletic scholarship or a walkon. This is where you come in. If you chose a school that offered you or let you walk-on. You most definitely can be an LSU fan. Buddy of mine played college baseball at SELU but is a die-hard Gump fan. He would have LOVED to play for Bama but they didn't offer him nor let him walk-on.

TLDR You're good b/c you chased a baseball dream that wasn't attainable at your favorite university.
Your friend is a poon.

Same. Grew up in Baton Rouge wanting to play for Skip more then anything. We had season tix for the 3 main sports the whole time growing up. Went to ULL instead and loved every part of it. Wouldn’t change a thing but it does create a little bit of a hole in my Tiger fandom. I won’t wear LSU gear because I don’t think I have the right to as a non tiger but I do love all things LSU Athletics

I go to Louisiana Tech but was raised a Tiger fan. I pull for both but when the Tigers play the Dawgs I wear purple. I don’t see an issue with being a non alumni fan.

Even though that kind of sounds like I’m in the Make-A-Wish program, I appreciate it.

There are no set rules. If you support LSU in any way you are considered a Tiger fan . Nothing to do with where you were born or where you went to school. Don’t let anyone tell you different . There’s plenty of room for one more Tiger fan

I didn’t go to LSU. I grew in Baton Rouge and some of my early memories was my dad taking me and my brother to the box from the mid 80’s to early 90’s. I loved LSU sports but the school wasn’t the right fit for me when college time came (I was a slacker in HS). I still live in the BR area and I’m a season ticket holder for baseball, and gymnastics (mainly the wife and kids go) and try to make a few football and basketball games a year.

I’m not alumni but I’ve been a tiger fan since birth. I too dreamed of donning the purple and gold but my talent level wasn’t close. I’m a season ticket holder in basketball and held season tickets with my dad ( non alumni) in baseball and football over the years. My life went on a different path even though going to LSU was always a dream. To me if your all-in as a fan then fine. Just don’t root for LSU baseball, duke basketball and Alabama football.

Neither of my parents graduated from LSU, but they put 3 kids through undergrad and graduate school at LSU and they are huge LSU fans. They have every right to be LSU fans. Hell they have paid more to the school in tuition than 90% of alumni

You are not just a Tiger Fan, but a co-equal Tiger Fan, in my book.
Being an LSU alum is not all that special. Regrettable as it seems, its entirely possible Tiger Ree is an alum. That should put to rest any suggestion that this is an elite crew.

From SETX and couldn't afford the out-of-state fees. I am a season ticket holder for football and a die-hard fan! You are not the only one.

You’re buddy is a fricking retard. My father was an All American at Southern Miss. He’s been a season ticket holder for 30+ years. You played D1 college Baseball! Eff your boy.

I've been a die hard Tiger since I was 6 when Chris Jackson was here, but I didnt attend LSU. My wife graduated from LSU and a lot of money went into the school from my household so I guess that counts for something.

Just like me you are an "ABC"-alumni by choice and are most certainly legit. You are part of a great club.
I attended LSU in the early 70's but graduated from UNO due to being married and having a part-time job in Metairie. I am proud to be an ABC as I am a 2- time president of the Greater New Orleans Alumni Assoc. as well as an Alumni Service Award winner. I bleed purple and gold. One of my greatest regrets in life is not graduating from LSU. My daughter did, though and I had tears in my eys at her graduation.
