I realize it's a ridiculous coping method but for some fans it eases the pain of a loss if you just prepare yourself emotionally that a loss is highly probable. Therefore, if they win, your expectations have been exceeded & you're happy. If they lose, it was expected so the emotional pain is easier to cope with. (not a Psychologist...this condition may have a name?)
